Fairness Doctrine

From Wikipedia

"The Fairness Doctrine was a regulation of the United States' Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which required broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance, and to present such issues in what was deemed an honest, equal and balanced manner. It has since been repealed by the FCC and aspects of it have been questioned by courts"

This regulation which has been abolished by the FCC since August 1987 has been re-introduced by Representative Dennis Kucinich evidently as the opening salvo of his bid for the Whitehouse in the 2008 election, along with Representative Maurice Hinchley, Representative Louise Slaughter, and Senator Bernie Sanders. This legislation has been decried by conservatives in the media as a way of the liberal media, to receive equal time to present their views. Conservatives have fired back saying that is simply a way keep their views from being expressed or to halve their time on the airwaves.

This on the heels of Air America's Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing and it's various cash flow problems. Have led to some speculation that the renewal of the Fairness Doctrine is revenge for Air America's failure and a stab at censorship of the airwaves by the liberal left. There is also the possibility that the Democratic members of Congress are attempting an end run to eliminate any advantages republican Presidential Candidates might gain through the airwaves.

Why this sudden rush to bring back the "Fairness Doctrine"? According to some sources it is the owners of Conservative radio shows and radio stations who will not allow opposing views to be broadcast. It has nothing to do with I don't know the lack of RATINGS of the shows being broadcast by Air America. I mean come on who can resist the rantings of ChuckD, Randi Rhodes, Ms. Rhodes again, Mike Malloy, what about the actions of the founders? The founders of the network embezzled funds from Gloria Wise Boy and Girls Club of New York. Do you hear this being broadcast by the liberal media? and lets not forget the premium host of the network Al Franken.

Tell me why should we bring back the Fairness Doctrine, if the so called opposing viewpoint which is not being heard, is nothing but a series of personal rants unsubstantiated by any shred of truth or proof, meant to whip up a hysterical reaction, and in many cases, actually are blatantly false and border on slander if not actually slanderous.

Why should we bring back the fairness doctrine to allow individuals like these with a personal agenda to spew their hatred and vitriol across our Public Airwaves?

Ok what did I say or do

to get the Senate Sergeant at Arms to come to my site?

Err now that I think about it my comments last night about Senator Kennedy might be construed as threats. Uhmmm, Well I wasn't trying to make or intending any threats of any kind I was trying to say that I think he has been in office too long and he needs to retire. If anything happens does anyone know a good first amendment lawyer?

Term Limits......

Many years ago President George Washington set a precedent of only serving 2 terms and not running for a third. Until Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the former Govenor of New York won his unprecednted third and fourth term as President of the United States of America in 1940 and 1944 (FDR, BIO), President roosevelt gave us the New Deal which re-energized our nations economy, which was going through the Great Depression with it's bank failures and total collapse of the stock market. It was America's worst financial disaster to that time. FDR with his programs brought our country out of the ruins and put us back on the road to recovery. Then something happened. It's name was Adolph Hitler and the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NAZI party. It was thought that to change the Presidency in troubling times was asking for trouble. So he won his third term. In 1944 with the U.S. still fully engaged in the war it was deemed unwide to change leaders at that time and he won his fourth term. he didn't get to serve his full term though. he died at his estate less than 100 days after his inauguraton and his Vice President, Harry Truman ascended to the Presidency. President Truman served the remainder of President Roosevelt's term and in a surprising victory won a second term. However Congress jealous of it's power that it had lost under a strong president such as Roosevelt, took steps to see to it that it would not happen again. hence the Twenty-Second Amendment to The Constitution of The United States. ere is some more of the history behind this amendment. Congress, in essensce was going to prevent any strong politician from ascending to the Presidency and upsetting the "Balance". However the balance would be heavily weighted in congresses favor with them holding the power of the purse-strings and the ability to handicapp the president at will through filibustering which would allow any bill the President favored to be held up either on the floor of congress or in commitee.

Do you see where this is leading? A group of individuals use their power to limit the main threat to their own power, and do it to further their own ends.

What are their ends? What do they want? What are they supposed to be doing? Congress is supposed "make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof" Instead they are playing petty politics and giving favor to special interest groups and playing with campaign funds and dabbling in outright corruption. It was my understanding that the members of Congress worked for their Constituients i their home district. Not for themselves or some PAC or their own interests. Am I wrong?

This is one of the reason I believe that we need to inact strong Term Limits, which affect our federal legislators. Many states already have term limits in place, however the politicians are doing thier best to get them eliminated.

If you are interested here is a link to states which have enacted term limits.

And here is a Link to an Organiztion to help get Term Limits Enacted.

Just for your eddification here is a link to your congressmembers "Influence" in congress.

You tell me who has more influence. the old timers with more tha 3-4 terms or the younger members many states are electing to try to effect change in congress?

Lotta strange hits according to sitemeter.....

I mean I've seen some weird url's in my years but all the "ADULT" url's from asia, south america, africa and everywhere else gets me wondering. Do I really want to know why a site with "Asia's hottest nudes" is looking at my blog? Or the site from Australia promising "Breast Enhancement, with NO SURGERY" or even the dreaded "Pecker Pills" to quote Law Dog. I mean I'd like to know if people are reading my blog, but at the same time I'd hope it was someone who is actually interested in what I have to say. Oh well back to the drawing board.......

A Modern Day Parable

A Modern Parable

A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (General Motors)
decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while
the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing.

Feeling a deeper study was in order, American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion. They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners, and free pens for the rower.
There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses.

The next year the Japanese won by two miles.
Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next year's racing team was out-sourced to India.
Sadly, the End.

Sad, but oh so true! Here's something else to think about: Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can't make money paying American wages. Toyota has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen new plants inside the US.
The last quarter's results:

Toyota makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses. Ford folks are still scratching their heads.

IF THIS WASN'T SO SAD IT MIGHT BE FUNNY!

Kitchen Olympics

Well the kids have been slacking, the kitchen floor hadn't been mopped properly in 2 weeks and my floor wasn't looking as white as it should. So last night I told the kids it's time to do the DREADED KITCHEN OLYMPICS. The looks of utter horrible GLEE as it sank in that they would get to SCRUB the kitchen floor. Yes that's right the dreaded Glee, I swear thier smiles were heartbreaking, you would think I had just given them a puppy they smiled so big. "Awwww DAD, do we HAVE TO?" yes kids we have to. So we broke out the scrub brushes, the bucket and Pine cleaner, mixed it up and they started the scrubbing the floor. The chant they had going reminded me of slaves on an Athenian Galley all I needed was the drum to keep the pace and the whip for any slackers. But oh, the horror, the laughter as they scrubbed and slid across the floor, I was afraid I might have pushed them to hard as they all fell laughing to the floor after sliding across the length of the kitchen and dining room, my youngest daughter was complaining that the brush wouldn't get into the nooks and cranny's and she didn't want the dreaded tickle attack if she failed to get them clean. The 4 boys, thier clothes soaked with dirty water from sliding across the floor screamed in fear as they neared the carpeting of the family room, the bump as they transitioned from the linoleum to the carpeting. Oh we might need an ambulance they grabbed themselves and screamed. Watching them trying to walk on the slick wet floor slipping and sliding, thier groans and muttering and the laughter, Oh the Humanity..

Finally after 30 minutes of scrubbing it was time to mop up the water and dry the floor, the kids yells of "DAAAAaaaaaaddddd!"!!, but we got the mop out and started soaking up the water. While My oldest daughter and I did that daughter #2 herded the rest of the muchkins to the master bathroom and it's extra-large tub, and piled in the 3 youngest ones. Ooooohhh It's the dreaded bubblebath, the screams and squeels Oh, I must be a monster to Inflict such damage on thier fragile Psyche's.

The kitchen floor was by now mostly dry, so daughter #1 and I put the chairs and stools back. The floor was once again "white" like it is supposed to be, not a speck of dirt or detritus anywhere. The kids were getting cleaned up and in thier PJ's for bed. Last stop before bed, Shrek 3D and a bowl of popcorn. Oh, I'm such a horrible father to expect them to sit up watching a movie and eating popcorn after so abusing them by having them perform the dreaded "Kitchen Olympics"

Computer Security

On Wednesday night/Thursday Morning's show I talked about securing your computer against Bot's and Malware. Here are the links to the various Programs that I use on all of my systems.

PcTools Registry Mechanic

LavaSoft Ad-Aware

Safer Networking SpyBot Search and Destroy

CCleaner

Grisoft AVG Free Anti-Virus

ZoneLabs Zone Alarm now by Checkpoint

I use these programs on all of my computers. and run full detailed scans of my system every week.

Also before shutting down my browser I clear all cookies, delete all temporary files and clear my history That will help get rid of any nasty stuff that someone tries to put on your system.

In Internet Explorer click on "Tools"-"Options" that will bring up the Explorer setting, you would then click on the delete cookies button and the delete files button, be sure to click the box to delete all offline files.

In FireFox, Click on "Tools"-"Clear Private Data" that will remove all the cookies and offline files.

Also change your passwords every once in awhlie and DO NOT let your computer keep track of any private data. that is stored on your computer in a little file that any malicious programmer can take advantage of. If you have problems remembering your passwords, do what I do, I PRINT all my account names and passwords out in a single file which I keep tape to the underside of my keyboard. Now that I've said that, I'll have to change it, but you get the idea, do not let your computer store any passwords, user id's, credit card information, social security numbers etc. don't do it.
