John Cleese - Political Correctness is condescending

From DailyMail

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving, I will be alone.  My two oldest are out of town, in school for Sprog #2 and just moved in with her boyfriend/possible Fiance.  Sprogs #3, #5, #6  and #7 are with their mom.  And Sprog #4 is with my mom.

Me, I have a rather bad cold and I really don't want to get anyone else sick, but Hey Guys!!!  I love Pecan Pie or 2 or even 3 or 4 if you can bring 'em.

My mother makes almost the best Pecan Pie of any Pecan Pie, I've ever eaten.  I honestly have to say that between hers and my Aunt Helens, I don't know whose is best.  But I've yet to have any Pecan Pie to match theirs.

So while I sit here an wait for my pain meds and the cold meds I"m allowed to use because of my pain meds try to go to work, I figured I'd write up my little wish list.

If everything goes right, I should have one of my stolen Taurus Revolvers back before Christmas.  The other one is still out there and even though I've TOLD the Sheriff's Office EXACTLY where the guy who stole them is living, he still hasn't been picked up nor my other Taurus Revolver recovered.

My Tokarev still hasn't been recovered and NOPE the young lady who broke the lock on my bedroom door and stole it, my pain meds and my back up cell hone is still able to go about her business.  It must have something to do with the fact that her father is a Local Police Officer.

Oh well.  I got my new Cheaper Than Dirt Catalog, and I remember after the New Town Shooting what they did.  At the time, I and many other Gun Bloggers swore we wouldn't give them our business again.

But with this economy, we really cannot afford to be that particular.  They have a .22 Conversion for the AR-15 that should fit my Franken-15 and since my upper has the 1:8 twist I'd really would like to see how the 60 gr Aquila ammo would group out of it, as it doesn't group at all out of my Heritage Arms .22 SA, and I haven't had time to get the Savage Pump out to run a few round of it through it.

Hmm maybe one of the Ammo Gods (Lucky Gunner, CDNN or Target Sports) might be willing to get one at a reduced cost for T&E.

What I would really like to do is to bring together someone with a suppressed 10/.22 and a suppressed .22/45 or Type II/III with a chronograph and a sound meter plus my converted Franken-15, my Savage and my Heritage, and see just how quiet ALL types of sub-sonic ammo is in a controlled test.

6 rounds of each type of ammo from each firearm with sound measured at 6 feet lateral to the bore and at 15 feet down range from the bore, while running them over the chronograph.

Perform at both 25 feet and 50 feet to check the loudness and the accuracy and just how much muzzle energy there would be left at the target.

I have a friend of a friend who can probably get or supply the 10/.22 and the Ruger with their suppressors.  My problem is getting a proper range..

My shooting backstop wall will stop .22's and .32's no problem, but I dont' really like doing it that way and I"m limited to only 21 feet.

I can probably talk to ***** at the Sooper Sekrit Gun Range and he might be amenable, however his in an indoor range and it might affect the acoustics enough to not allow accurate measurements of the sound levels.

Bud's has a nice model 10 I wouldn't mind having, but what I really want is a 3" 6 shot .357 Magnum, and the Ruger is WAAaayyyy out of my price range and the 3" is only a 5 shot and I don't WANT a 5 shot.  I want a 6 shot 3 inch .357 Magnum with a round butt.  I know they make them, but not at a price I can ever afford unless I win the Lotto.

Ahhh but Since #1 Sprog has now moved in with her Boyfriend/Fiance I gave her my other Taurus 82 and about 150 round f .38 Special, I also gave her the Rossi Matched Set with .22 LR and 20 Ga barrels in it's case with about 150 shells for the 20 ga and about 1000 rounds of .22LR mixed and matched.

I"ve been seriously looking at getting a couple of the Chiappa Little Badgers in .22, one for Sprog #2 to keep handy since she's going to school over a 100 miles away and a second one down here for the boys and I to shoot.

I"m going to get off of here now and do a quick clean up through Book of Face then go to bed.

I'm getting really tired of only getting 2.5 to 3 hour sleep a day because of this cold.

Chuck Woolery - Obama's Executive Order

Obama Administration issuing Regs, hoping you don't know

"While Americans are focused on what delicious foods they’re going to eat for Thanksgiving, the White House is focused on releasing its massive regulatory agenda — marking the fifth time the Obama administration has released its regulatory road map on the eve of a major holiday.

The federal Unified Agenda is the Obama administration’s regulatory road map, and it lays out thousands of regulations being finalized in the coming months. Under President Barack Obama, there has been a tradition of releasing the agenda late on Friday — and right before a major holiday."

Once again, they are trying to slide stuff under the radar.  So while you are having thanksgiving with your family, there are releasing regulations which affect everyone's lives.  And they do it in such a way that you remain ignorant to them, until it is too late.

SO while I know you would prefer to relax and eat turkey, until you pop, take a bit of tie to check out the regulations as they are released.  Keep an eye out on the news.  And if what you find out doesn't seem right.  Speak Out.

US Navy Admiral Denies culpability in Counterfeiting case.

"WASHINGTON – An admiral linked by Navy investigators to counterfeit casino chips denied Sunday that he played any role in making them.

Investigation records say his DNA was found on the underside of an adhesive sticker used to alter one of the phony chips, but previously undisclosed emails indicate that the presence of his DNA is not conclusive evidence that he was involved in the fakery.

Rear Adm. Timothy M. Giardina, who was fired last year as No. 2 commander of U.S. nuclear forces at an early stage of a Navy criminal investigation into the counterfeit chips, acknowledged to The Associated Press that he played the fake chips at a poker table in the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in June 2013.

But he denied any involvement in the counterfeiting or even knowing the chips were fakes at the time he used them."

This seems like a very stupid reason to lose your career over.

Counterfeiting poker chips?

Personally if you do something like that I don't want you in command of our troops/sailors/airmen, whatever your branch.  (Yes I did but the Army and the Marine Corps together as Troops)  Because you have shown a distinct lack of moral character and are a weasel.

And weasels get our troops killed.  Look to the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for proof of that.

Chocolate Shortage?

At first I was going to write up a quirky post about since there was a possibility of a shortage due to not enough farmers planting, so less would be harvested, maybe the drug cartels in South America would switch to chocolate production instead of cocaine production.  I had a punchline of how when the cost of chocolate was more per ounce than cocaine, we would start to have chocolate smugglers, and people would be helping them hide from the government.

However, it's not really that simple of a deal.

First I will direct you to the story that started the panic per se'.

"There's no easy way to say this: You're eating too much chocolate, all of you. And it's getting so out of hand that the world could be headed towards a potentially disastrous (if you love chocolate) scenario if it doesn't stop.

Those are, roughly speaking, the words of two huge chocolate makers, Mars, Inc. and Barry Callebaut. And there's some data to back them up."

I would like to point out that the write of that piece, Roberto A. Ferdman, one of the writers for the WonkBlog, the Ezra Klein vehicle which propelled him to Bloomberg, MSNBC, and now Vox Media.

So knowing that, you should take ANYTHING that Mr. Ferdman write with several dozen grains of salt, okay, maybe a dumptruck from the Minnesota Highway Department in Wintertime load of salt.

With a little more looking I find a rather well written and researched piece by Forbes writer Tim Worstall.

"The last few days have seen us regaled with a serious of stories about how the world is going to run out of chocolate. That would be, I think we can all agree, almost as bad as running out of bacon."

Great opening line, if you ask me.

He goes on to discuss the production, and how the market influences the production. Or rather how it SHOULD influence production.

"However, we’ve a bit of a puzzle here. Markets are usually pretty good at sorting these sorts of things out. OK, so demand rises, prices rise, farmers plant more (or in more general terms, producers producer more) and thus supply grows to meet that rising demand.

And in a proper market we can never actually have a “shortage”. We can only have a shortage of something at the price that people want to pay for it."

And then he goes on how the farmers are the ones getting screwed over by their own government.

"the government is paying the farmers £1 a kg or so and the market is indicating that supply and demand will balance at £1.88 a kg. So, what we’ve actually got here is some price fixing. And the price to the producers is fixed well below the market clearing price"

Andrew Yamamanama and the Army

Andrew M****** is googling himself again.  Boy he really must have a high opinion of himself.  Either that or he's still trying to find the correct search terms still to find out what I've found about him.

Hmm someone from the Army looking for ammo maybe?

Whoever this is, they check out my blog pretty regularly.  They along with the guys at Fort Gesundheit.

Bill Whittle - Firewall - A Crash in Mojave

Hickok45 - Chiappa Little Badger

I actually am considering getting some of these for the kids.  Plus I want one for myself also.

I wonder if I can work a deal for 11 of these in .22LR.

One for each of my kids, my 2 nephews and my niece, then of course one for me.

I do wonder however how hard customizing one of these is.

I personally would like to be able to take it down completely easily without tools, and to make the butt stock and buttplate a little thinner.  It look like it is about 4.5 inches tall, maybe work it to make it similar to a wire folder without the side foldiing.

Modify the 2 wires coming out like the pic above and make the butplate a little smaller.

Now someone is going to ask me "Why?"

I want something that will take up as little room as possible, so I can fit more gear into the same space.

If it can be taken down into 2 parts, that buttstock is still rather large/wide.  If I am using this as a backpack gun or a truck gun, I want it as small as possible and as light as possible.

Chiappa has gone very far in those 2 regards, however there is always room for some improvement.

Remember, Better is the enemy of the Good.

The Last Starfighter 1984 (Modern Trailer

The Last Starfighter  IMDB

I remember when this came out.  The graphics were amazing and it starred one of my favorite actors, Robert Preston. I loved Mr. Preston in the Music Man which to this day is one of my favorite movies next to My Fair Lady and Serenity.  The acting of some of the actors seemed a little forced, but I enjoyed the movie as a whole.

The CGI scenes which were ground breaking at the time look overly video gamish compared to todays graphics, but if there is ever a remake and they can find an actor of Mr. Preston's caliber to play Centauri, I"d be willing to stand in line for a ticket.

Below is a Making of Special on the movie which I think you will enjoy as well.

The full movie is also available through "The Internet Archive"

Feminism vs Patriarchy

Patriarchy has been extremely successful, despite its recent vilification. Most cultures worldwide are patriarchal – to find examples of successful matriarchal societies you either have to turn to ancient history, remote outskirts of the world or feminist fiction. However, this hasn’t stopped the feminist collective from queefing out books and even a hashtag hailing the end of patriarchy in a textbook example of incestuous amplification.

What patriarchy, after its apparent downfall, will be replaced with remains to be seen. Hamsterizations aside, there is surprisingly little data available about what life would be like in a society made up of only men or only women. An enterprising social scientist might want to perform an experiment where groups of men and groups of women are left to their own devices, having to work together to survive against the elements and build a civilization from scratch. However, this scientist would have a very hard time convincing ethical review boards that the inevitable suffering of his participants would weight up against the value of the data.

Luckily, reality television is not bound by ethical constraints and once in a while, in its never ending quest for viewer ratings, reality TV accidentally performs a very interesting experiment that social scientists would never be allowed to do.

Quite a few years ago, I had the pleasure of watching the Dutch version of Survivor (Expeditie Robinson) with my feminist roommate. That particular season would have two islands, one populated by men and one populated by women. My roommate had been promoting that particular series to me and the other students in the house for weeks because it would show us, according to her, what a society run by women – free from the evils of patriarchy – would be like."
