Back in '58 my family had a portable heater that ran on "parrafin" (lamp oil). It had the job of keeping the whole apartment warm. It tried, heaven knows it tried, but it couldn't keep the bedrooms very warm. Still, it burned a half gallon per day if we kept it cranked low. It was all we could afford (family of 6 on a CWO 2's pay). This was in England when my father was TDY to Bentwaters RAFB for four years!
