The Original Equalizer - Man Killer

ala  Samuel Colt.

Colt Patterson 5 shot .36 caliber Cap and Ball Revolver

In the original you would load the powder charge, then load the ball/bullet and use grease over the top to prevent chain fires where all chambers would fire.  After covering the chambers with grease you would carefully pinch the cap and place it on the nipple of the cylinder, seating it fully and carefully to keep it from going off.  In a modern reproduction you can use a special fiber wad between the powder and the ball to help prevent chain fires, doing away with the grease.

This pistol was the basis for modern firearms innovation as Samuel Colt defended his patents vigorously, forcing his competitors to come up with new ways of doing the same thing.

So until the birth of JMB, (Patron Saint of Lever Action, Automatic and Semi-Automatic firearms) Samuel Colt is the main innovator giving us modern firearms.
