I wonder what this could do for Alzheimers patients

The key ingredient here is valproic acid. Normally, it's used to treat neurological disorders like seizures and epilepsy, and various other mood disorders. But Hensch claims it may help restore plasticity in the adult brain"

Does anyone know if this possible treatment is being considered?  Alzheimer's is from the possible buildup of a plaque in the brain among other possible causes.  If  Valproic Acid could possibly help the brain revert, it could help prevent or reverse the progression of the dementia in Alzheimers patients?  It is already used off label to help control the behavior of dementia patients.  Couldn't a regimen with varying dosages be tested to see if it could help to lessen or even slightly reverse the effects of Alzheimers?

If you look at the Wiki page I linked to above you will see there are many adverse reaction and contraindications. 

Those are known reactions and such. So I don't think would be a miracle drug.  But I do think that research needs to be done to see if it could help the hundreds of thousands of sufferers of Alzheimers and other similar disorders.
