1. In Indiana they can't pull you over for a seatbelt violation.
2., They cannot compel you to "show ID" the law says you"must identify yourself" but there is no requirement to show ID. Stating his name is enough. As he wasn't the driver, he did not have to show a license.
He wasn't cooperative, but there is no law requiring him to be so. This is a clear case of cops being assholes.
He could have gotten this all to move along faster by being cooperative, but he did not have to be. THe cops were wrong. They were unhappy because he wasn't compliant.
And, BTW, I'm white and from the area. Hammond IN cops are kinda "Respect Ma Autoriteh" in attitude, and here it is gonna bite them in the ass.
Now, this likely wasn't about race, it was rather about control and compliance.
