Very True and very worrying.

My trip to Asymmetric Solutions Farmington Mo Facility

This is the video I took at Asymmetric Solution's Farmington, MO facility.  I was using my monopod as my cane as it's a little hard to use the camera and my cane at the same time.  I had planned to do a much more detailed video including some shooting on their range.  However I spun out in their driveway while towing a truck behind me, which messed up both my truck and the truck I was towing.  The young guy in the video whose name I can't remember helped my redrill and remount the towbar and helped me get on my way after he and the older gentleman gave me a quick tour.

I can tell you this from seeing those walls in the shoot house, nothing is getting through them unless it is BIG, as in .50 BMG AP or larger.

Now some will look at this and will think that they have a bunch of stuff that doesn't look finished.  Well there were other areas which I tried to focus in on, such as their pistol range and the vehicle shoot range.  Most of the areas are actually well built with proper safety measures incorporated.   Nine foot berms, Hesco Type carriers and they are adding more parts to the facility to allow for more types of training.  They have one whole side of a mountain I actually climbed a few times in the past, to use for target practice.  They are adding on to the shoot house to incorporate multiple floor scenarios.

From what I saw, there is a lot of money and time behind putting their facility together.  And they have another facility about 45 miles away outside of Potosi, MO that I hope in the future I might be able to tour.


Would I go there to take a course?

Well it would depend on the course.  I'm disabled and have very limited mobility.  They do offer Firearm Safety courses, CCW Courses, First Aid courses.  Those I think I could handle physically.  Their more advanced courses?  I'm not qualified physically or from prior experience to take or judge how good they are.  My totality of tactical training back when I was working for the Housing Authority and the Police Department was a 45 minute class with 15 minutes of doing a walk through with a paintball gun every year for 10 years, which mostly dealt with doing an emergency entry or taking down a prisoner in his cell.  That's it.

I'm not Mr Sooper Soldier or Tactical Wizard Cop.  I was a Security Officer, and an unpaid Police Auxiliary working in the jail, who got to go out on the street maybe twice a month for 4 hours.

So I'm not the person to tell you whether or not their advanced courses are good or not.  For that I would recommend you contact Asymmetric Solutions yourselves.

I can tell you this.  They have spent a lot of money and are still spending a lot of money to improve their facility.  That means they are not a fly by night outfit only in this to make as much money as they can as quickly as they can.  Granted they do this to make money, but what would their return on their investment be if they spent all that money and their students/customers don't get their money's worth?

One or two bad reviews could sink their business, and they would be out all that money they have invested.

I doubt seriously they are willing to do that, so I think they would hire competent, knowledgeable instructors.

You however have to decide if that is good enough for you.

Me?  I'd like to figure out a way for my two brothers and nephews to take their Firearms Safety Course.  I think they would learn a lot, and they would enjoy it.  It also might be something I and they could afford in this current economy.

So there is my review and my view of Asymmetric Solutions.

Satellite imagery showed HUNDREDS of trucks leaving Iraq for Syria and the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon before the invasion by Coalition Forces.

Hundreds of trucks.

And since those chemical weapons ween't dealt with then.  Now we have to deal with them in Syria.

My question, what about the trucks fulls of "Something" that went into the Bekaa Valley?

Cookies from FBI on my computer?

I'm doing my blogroll and browsing bookface and as usual after I log out of bookface I go in to delete the cookie they put on my computer as there are reports it can still track where you go after logging out.

And what do I see in my cookies?

A cookie from the FBI.  I didn't go to any site that is government affiliated.  So why do I have a cookie from the FBI on my computer?

ETA: I ran a trace on my system to see how I get to bookface and here are the results.

DO you reload? Do you shoot Milsurp?

If you shoot an old Milsurp that uses Berdan primers and always though it was just too much of a hassle to even try to reload your fired cases.  Have I got a thread for you.


Converting Berdan primer pockets to Boxer

Yes you can convert Berdan primed cases to use Boxer primers.  And it really isn't that expensive if you are already reloading.  You can use a hand drill but a drill press with a good machinist vise is really recommended.

Old tech changing and saving lives - Sand Dams

"The discovery of a lake the size of Delaware beneath a Kenyan desert this month may prove to be a game-changer for precious water needs in arid East Africa.

The new supply of billions of gallons, if managed properly, may make the desert bloom indefinitely, some scientists and UN experts say."

From the Wikipedia entry on Sand Dams we get:

Low cost and maintenance: Sand dams are the lowest cost form of rainwater harvesting known – 3 to 100 times lower cost than other technologies. A sand dam is built to last over 50 years, has no operational costs and requires little maintenance.

Community owned and managed: Most examples of sand dams are built by members of the communities they serve with support local and international development agencies. Community ownership and management is key to their successful operation.

They save time and enable increased food production and tree planting: During drought periods in semi-arid regions, people might have to walk up to 12 hours a day to fetch water, which is often unsafe to drink. Freed from the chore of walking sometimes the whole day to collect the water, farmers are able to improve food production and generate surplus income.

They provide a clean, secure and local year-round water supply in water scarce environments: The sand effectively acts as a large slow sand filter resulting high quality potable water. As the water is held under the sand, evaporation is minimal, people are protected from water-borne diseases and mosquitoes can’t breed – reducing the threat of malaria.

Wider benefits for health, education and communities: In areas where sand dams have been built, communities have observed a dramatic fall in water related disease, an increase in school attendance and a significant increase in household income and food production.

They transform the local ecology: The water held in the sand behind the dam spreads horizontally creating a permanent increase in the water table, allowing trees grow naturally and transforming the local ecology. The dams create a natural buffer that reduces the threat posed by flooding and drought and builds the resilience of communities to cope with the impacts of climate change in semi-arid regions.

While being both relatively easy and hard to build at the same time a Sand Dam can change the lives for the better for hundreds of thousands of people in the dry areas of Africa with little rainfall.

Simple as it is easy technology that almost anyone can do, hard in that you need to have a suitable area to build it plus the proper materials.

If the U.N. would actually get experts and materials to the areas where proper Sand Dams can be built and helps with ensuring that they are built properly.  Sand Dams could help end the famine in Africa in less than 20 years.

After the construction of a proper Sand Dam, the entrapped water spreads out horizontally, filing the local aquifer, allowing trees and other plants to grow properly, and still allowing for drinking and irrigation water if properly managed.  As like I said, the water travels horizontally.  Meaning the area adjacent to each dam will become it's own oasis in the desert with trees, vegetation and more and more wild fauna will come to the area to eat and drink as well.

Looking at the photos in the Wikipedia article, if built using cinder blocks, there is maybe 2 to 3 hundred dollars in blocks.  And mortar can be made up on site if the necessary materials can be found.  Add in some slotted PVC pipe to be buried behind the wall to allow for the water to move to sides of the dams, and you can have a large clean reservoir of water for thousands of people in as little as two years.

I'd much rather pay for a couple dozen Sand Dams that to keep shipping food that the local Warlords confiscates and sells on the black market to line his own pockets.

Do you know who they were now?

If you still cannot figure this out let me point out you have somehow obtained a poorly lacking education, beyond even watching the History Channel on one of their regular World War Two days.  For several months it seemed the History Channel was All Hitler, All the Time.  Those shows seemed to be specializing on his Schutzstaffel or SS in excess to all else, for awhile.  To the point that many blog from both the left, right and center came up with that name above, All Hitler, All The Time or The Hitler Channel.

And Gestapo was a subset of the SS.

Now the SS was actually created as a small part of Sturmabteilung or SA.  What were called the original "Stormtroopers".  Their job was bully boys who would beat down anyone who got in the way or the Party Leadership thought was getting too big for their britches.  The "Brownshirts" wore surplus military shirts issued to them by the "Party".  Their original purpose was as the "Bouncers" of the party to throw out the wrong kind of troublemakers and back up the right ones.  Did you catch that?

The SA were used to beat up the political enemies of their party leadership and to stir up trouble.  Make themselves look both strong and imposing and by extension their party look that way as well.

The SA were the strong arm of The Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NSDAP or as it has become know throughout the world as the NAZI party.

By now you are either thinking "Yeah, so what?" and leaving the page or you are thinking, "Where is he going with this?"
