Specialization

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

“Political tags–such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth–are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.”

- Robert A. Heinlein

“Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties

1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes

2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depositary of the public interests. In every country these two parties exist, and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves. Call them, therefore, Liberals and Serviles, Jacobins and Ultras, Whigs and Tories, Republicans and Federalists, Aristocrats and Democrats, or by whatever name you please, they are the same parties still and pursue the same object. The last one of Aristocrats and Democrats is the true one expressing the essence of all.”

We have a finite amount of time on this planet. When the Lord’s going to take us, we don’t know, but every second of your life is a second gone forever. Someone who doesn’t have respect for your time has no respect for you. This is something all young men should learn by puberty.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

"'Freedom' IS NOT 'Free'!!! Someone Must Pay for The Freedom of 'Free People'! It is a Bill that is usually Paid with the Blood Of Brave Men (And Women), Far From Home, Afraid, Cold, and Uncomfortable, WELL OUTSIDE of the THIN Bubble of 'Civilization' that MANY people in the Western World take for Granted as 'The Norm' (Never knowing, or caring, how THIN that 'bubble' really is, or how FEW people actually live inside that bubble)... Those Brave, 'Rough', Men and Women WILLINGLY place THEIR BODIES between the EVIL PEOPLE of the World, and The People at home that those men and women love. 'The FEW' pay that bill (which is ALWAYS 'Past Due', and Accrues Interest and Late Fees Daily), so that 'The MAJORITY' can live day to day, pretending Evil DOESN'T HUNGRILY pace and test the boundaries 'of that thin bubble of civilization'"

"I would agree. After all, even if Humans *evolved* on this planet, but an Intelligent Creator first set forth the conditions under which life could evolve, then evolution cannot hold ANY contradiction to the idea of Intelligent Design.

As an analogy, think of God as a scientist in his lab & he sets up an experiment with the *conditions* that allow for evolution under multiple generations; Evolution may be merely the precise process that brought Human Beings into existence, but it was still set up deliberately!

So I don’t consider any argument between “Creationism vs. Evolution” to be valid."

When everything goes wrong and you know you are about to die, you pray. You pray to God like you learned in Sunday school.

When no answer comes, you start praying to anyone that will listen. And sometimes they do. Sometimes it isn't a Jehovah or Yahweh that hears you. Sometimes the Old Gods do. Sometimes the Old Gods answer.

People always get it wrong. The Old Gods in the myths we read in school are always made out to be slightly silly, a little goofy. But they were actually sources of sheer terror. Poseidon brought raging storms and crashing waves. Ares was a bloodthirsty killer who reveled in death, battle, and the stench of blood. Frightening, monstrous beings with immense power, unspeakable rages and towering jealousies.

The most terrifying of all the Gods was Zeus. Striking from the top of Mount Olympus, hurling bolt after bolt of deadly lightning, against which there was no defense, no chance of survival.
