What you experienced is actually a customer ‘service’ tactic designed to convince you to give up and not receive compensation. It’s termed ‘friction’ and is frequently used by the insurance industry and others, basically intended to make the claim process so difficult and frustrating that people just like you can’t waste any more time and give up.
