The attacks on Mitt Romney through his religion.

Now first a few disclaimers here before I start.

#1: I am not Mormon, I don't agree with some of the things represented in Mormonism.

#2: I don't like Mitt Romney, in fact I think he is a bag full of hot air who doesn't deserve to be an elected official, be it a dog catcher or the good Lord forbid the President.

#3: I like Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Sarah Palin, but my dream ticket is Fred Thomson and Joe Lieberman.

#4: I am an Ordained Non-Denominational Christian Minister. I have very LARGE issues with "Organized" Religion.

Now saying all that The Baptist Minister Robert Jeffers referred to Mitt Romney's Religion, Mormonism, as a "Cult". He defended his remarks and said he would still prefer Romney over the current resident of the White House. However he differentiates Mormonism as a "Theological" Cult instead of a "Sociological" Cult. Nice weasel wording there Brother Jeffers.

I did a little digging to see just how small this supposed "Cult" is.

Now granted the website I went to is run by the Mormon church, so it may bit a bit biased, but here are some numbers.

  • Worldwide, there are over 13 million Mormons, nearly the same as the number of Jews.
  • In the United States the LDS Church is the 4th largest individual denomination with over 5.5 million members, a population about equal to the number of Muslims.
  • Only 12% of all Mormons live in Utah. Most Mormons do not live in North America.
  • Aside from the United States, other regions with significant numbers of Mormons include Mexico and Asia (1 million members each), South America (3 million members), and Central America and Europe (about half a million each). The rapid growth the Church has been experiencing in Africa, where the number of Mormons already passes a quarter of a million, is particularly exciting.
  • After Catholics, the LDS Church is the largest religion by number in ten U.S. states.

Hmmm, now that is interesting. What is the worldwide breakdown according to their site?

Wow! If this is true, the Mormon Church seems to be an EXTREMELY large "Cult". Most cults never number more than a few hundred, unless you're speaking about Scientology, but even they don't claim 13 million members.

But what about Mormons just here in the U.S.?

That is a lot... Hmmm I don't know of any "Cult" that has that large of a representation anywhere outside of Hollywood.

And if you want to see these numbers for yourself, here is the website I got them from. LINK

Now for someone to attack any candidate over their religion, I think is absolutely stupid and asinine. This country was built on the ideals of Religious freedom. As long as their religion doesn't harm others, it shouldn't matter. But of course their are the small minded people who think anyone who espouses their religion is wrong. I'm directing that comment to the Atheist idiots, who do their best to force their belief that they should be free from religion, and try to force their beliefs down everyone elses throat at the tip of litigation. In fact I think all the atheists have reached a point of being an organized religion, and should be sued to stop their religious interference in everything from private or public displays of Crosses to the Political correct movement they started.

I'm about to start a rant, so I'm going to bed.
