About the Lead Smelter in Herculaneum closing. I've already seen many from the Left saying there are other smelters and accusing others of being conspiratards.
Please remind them that "Yes, there are still SECONDARY SMELTERS, not Primary Smelters." A primary smelter smelts the lead from raw ore. Using a process similar to a Bessemer blast furnace. a Secondary Smelter uses a different process and cannot process raw ore, only lead that has already been extracted.
So yes we no longer have any way to process lead ore and turn it into semi refined lead. All ore will now have be shipped out of the US for primary extraction of the lead in smelters that don't meet the emission regulations that the Doe Run smelter already does.
So how are the newer more stringent regulations helping the environment?
When they force the closure of a plant that already meets very stringent regulations and employs 100's of tax paying individuals, the tax revenue is lost and the lead ore will now be smelted in a facility that will pour an untold amount of particulate matter into our atmosphere which the Doe Run Plant trapped.
Great Job EPA.
