I was under the impression that paper ballots were REQUIRED to be available for any voter who wished to use one.
I went and voted earlier today, and I was informed that Electronic Voting Machines were the only allowable means of voting.
I waited in line out in the heat and the sun for over 45 minutes. I am disabled, my spine and leg are held together with steel plates, rods and screws, I have several spinal disc herniation's and I take medications which make me being in the heat and sun actually dangerous to me. There were only 2 chairs outside which I let others use, plus I wasn't sure I'd be able to get up if I did sit down.
When I finally got inside to vote, it was reiterated to me that ONLY the electronic voting machines were available to cast my ballot on. With several printed sample ballots taped out on the counter for voters to see.
There were 5 of the voting machines at my polling place but one of them was down, and from friends I found out that wasn't the only polling place with that problem.
The VFW, had a 90 minute wait for a machine to become available. A friend told me he got to polling place at 5:15 pm, he had to park over a block away and walk up, then waited until just after 7:00 pm when the polls were supposed to close, to actually cast his vote.
If the paper ballots were available, people could have been in and out in less than 15-20 minutes.
And my spine wouldn't screaming at me, nor would my head be pounding with a Hulk Level migraine.
