Help needed if you can
I have been going without air conditioning, and with a backed up septic system for 3 weeks now. You know the old saying, if it isn't on...

Texas Towers: "Georges Bank Radar Station" 1957 US Navy; Early Warning Radar on Oil Platform
This video is about the Texas Towers, five were planned, however only three of these radar towers were built during the Cold War to give the United States up to an additional 30 minutes of warning in case of an attack from the Soviet Union.
Starting operations in 1956, the towers were in use until a major storm destroyed Tower 4 in 1961. The other towers were decommissioned in 1963, as technology had progressed giving us other means to detect not just Soviet bombers, but Soviet ICBM's.

US Navy shoots back
"Military.com - A Navy ship that came under fire from two missiles launched from rebel-held land in Yemen while it transited through international waters Sunday responded in self-defense with three missiles, a Defense Department official confirmed to Military.com.
USNI news first reported that the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Mason launched a RIM-162 Evolved SeaSparrow Missile and two Standard Missile-2s from the waters of the Red Sea, north of the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb where it was operating when it came under attack.
A defense official confirmed that the missiles had been launched and also confirmed the outlet's report that the ship had used a Nulka missile decoy, designed to be launched to lure enemy missiles away from their targets.
The Raytheon-made SeaSparrow is designed to intercept supersonic anti-ship missiles, while the SM-2, also made by Raytheon, is the Navy's primary surface-to-air weapon and a key element of shipboard defense for destroyers.
The Mason was responding to two ballistic missiles that originated around 7 p.m. Sunday from Yemeni territory held by Shiite Houthi rebels. The Mason was not hit by the missiles, and an official from U.S. Navy Forces Central Command said Monday it remained unclear if the ship had been specifically targeted."
They should have tracked where the missiles came from and responded with their deck gun.

What is it with planes and Golf Courses?
More planes have crashed on Golf Courses. Today an Air force Thunderbird pilot who ejected safely and a Blue Angels pilot who unfortunately appears to have died in the crash of his F/A-18, had their planes come down on golf courses.
"(CNN)A U.S. Navy Blue Angels jet and an Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 crashed Thursday in separate incidents in Tennessee and Colorado, officials said.
The F-16 crashed south of Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a U.S. Air Force Academy commencement ceremony attended by President Barack Obama.
A spokesman for the academy said the plane went down far from the stadium, and the pilot, a member of the Air Force's Thunderbirds demonstration team, safely ejected."
Does anyone remember when Harrison Ford crashed his WWII Trainer on a golf course last year?
I think aircraft should be banned from flying near golf courses as they appear to have some mystical quality causing air craft crashes.
My prayers for the family of the Navy Blue Angels Team Member.

This is why the Air Force wants to get rid of the A-10
and other Aircraft and their associated systems.
"From what I have gathered over the years on the topic via talking to pilots directly and seeing mentions of the decision in publications from time to time, the USAF justifies not procuring CFTs because it already has so many tanker aircraft. Additionally, in a major air battle they don’t need the extra weapons stations freed up by the inclusion of CFTs as a great advantage because they can simply assign more F-16s to target set. For longer-range strike missions they can use the F-15E or even a bomber."
That article is about why the US Air Force does not use Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFT) on the F-16 Viper. Can you read between the lines and figure out the reason?
It's simple. They have all these OTHER aircraft, that they "Need" to have in inventory, to do the job.
Those Aircraft, are jobs in Congressional districts. Those Aircraft are kick backs and jobs after retirement for Procurement Officers and Generals who make recommendations.
They don't WANT to buy the less expensive option which allows the mission to get completed with fewer aircraft.
And it is not just the Air Force. It is also the Army, the Marine Corps, the Navy, and there have even been a few cases of the Coast Guard only getting a system because of certain deal sweeteners.
The US Military, heck the US Government's entire Procurement apparatus, is broken.
Needed materials unless under certain conditions can ONLY be procured under bidding conditions that stretch out and add additional costs to the total cost. Keeping hundreds if not thousands of unnecessary Government employees on the payroll, jacking up the expenditures.
The whole Procurement process needs an enema.
MISSION FIRST should be the mantra, NOT whatever it currently is.
For more on the boondoggle that is the US Air Force Procurement programs read this article about the KC 46.

US ASW - I wonder what Old NFO would have to say
about this.
"A greater concern, perhaps, is not what Russia is doing — it’s what the U.S. is not doing very well. In the unlikely event of a major war, the Navy would be forced to call up its reserve of anti-submarine watch officers, who operate from land bases and direct P-3 patrol planes and friendly submarines, while also steering carrier battle groups away from enemy subs."
There was at least one and possibly two Russion Akulas in the Gulf of Mexico, not too long ago, plus one off the East coast "That We KNOW Of" What else have the Russians or someone else been slipping into the area? With the Narco Subs in the Gulf and off the West Coast plus these new Subs of the Russians, I think we need to start finding out just how much of our ASW infrastructure is still viable.

Remember I posted about listening to my scanner a lot?
This story is one of the reasons why:
"AREA 3 (Kiii News) - Border Patrol agents said drug dealers are coming up with some pretty interesting ways to smuggle drugs into our country.
In fact, agents are seeing larger and more frequent dope seizures."
I originally started listening to my scanner after finding out about Narco Subs, Here Are More stories about Narco subs, note there are 3 links there. I had heard that the crew of one Narco sub was captured down by Brownsville, and another up by Houston. Since I live about 40 miles north of Corpus Christi, and less than 150 yards from a bay that leads right out into the Gulf of Mexico, there exists a possibility, small though it is, but a possibility that one of those Narco subs could conceivably pull in near my house. My Family could be endangered. Hence I listen to the scanner. The Local authorities, the State frequencies, Federal frequencies, Coast Guard and Navy frequencies. I notice however that there is very little if any reports about these Narco subs on my local news stations. Nothing on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, ABC, CBS. Nothing...
So since I KNOW that the drug cartels won't stop, and I KNOW the media either isn't being told by the Government, or doesn't think it's important enough to report on. I listen to my scanner and short wave receiver. That is how I heard a LOT of encrypted traffic on Navy and Coast Guard frequencies, and how every once in a while I hear traffic in the clear which is very confusing.
I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.
