What the movies got mostly right

Watch that scene.  Most people who get shot, if they don't let their emotions overwhelm them, are quite similar to the guy in the clip getting shot.  Where it take multiple hits to finally put them down.  And notice he didn't get thrown backwards.  He stumbled backwards and finally fell.

Most people who die from a gunshot wound, actually die from going into shock.  Unless a person is hit in the CNS (Central Nervous System) which shuts down the autonomous nervous system, there is almost never an instant kill.  There are cases of people getting minor gunshot wounds who then die from them, not because of the severity of the wound.  But from the mental shock. Thier own mind basically shuts them down, when if they had kept control of their emotions, to keep from going into shock, they would have survived.  Even large bleeding wounds unless they directly affect the heart can be survivable if proper first aid and medical treatment is started in time.  Look at our soldiers in the Middle East, who survived horrific amputations and are home now recovering.  Look at several of the victims of the Boston Bombing.  They got quick timely medical assistance and treatment, and they are still alive.

Next, notice the suppressed pistol used in that scene.

In a semi-automatic pistol using sub-sonic ammunition with a lighter recoil spring designed specifically for use with sub-sonic ammunition does sound almost exactly like that.

In this video you can hear the difference between the fully suppressed with the gas seal 7.62 Nagant ammunition and the louder sound of .32 S&W Long ammunition which doesn't seal the cylinder gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone.  In a properly set up semi automatic pistol you can get a reduction between the Nagant with the gas seal 7.62 Nagant ammunition, and the .32 S&W Long ammunition.  In an improperly setup pistol, meaning shooting standard velocity ammunition through a suppressor it will be much louder.  Plus you cannot shoot standard velocity ammunition through a pistol setup for sub-sonic ammunition without risking damaging the psitol and possibly yourself.

So where am I going with all this?

Honestly, I just saw Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang again and this post popped into my head.
