The US Military needs to bring back Rifle Grenades. Sure they have the M203, and the MK19 but there are times when you NEED a grenade. And not one you throw by hand, because the target is too far away, but the guy with the grenade launcher is 20-30 yards away under fire so he can't move and he doesn't have the angle on the target you need hit.
So if each soldier had a bullet trap rifle grenade or two on their gear, if they needed to hit a target, the could slide the grenade on the muzzle of their rifle, and take aim, (There are variants they can be shoulder aimed) and put that grenade where it's needed.
I'm not advocating doing away with the M203, the 40mm HEDP rounds have a larger blast radius than most current rifle grenades making them more effective. However, there ARE times when you just need to get a grenade in somewhere.
Instead of a new piece of hardware like the XM-25, which is being withdrawn from service according to reports for certain issues. You get a rifle grenade that you can put in through a window if necessary. Your soldier also still has his rifle.
So how hard would it be to incorporate a small laser sight on a rifle? Most of them already HAVE that. They have Laser Sight/Designator, If that could be coupled with an optic with a small interface, you could program a rifle grenade to burst on distance flow, OR on impact. That way every soldier could technically be a Grenadier. And it would probably be a LOT cheaper to field and train troops on.
Naaaawwwww, the Military would never go for it. It makes too much sense.
