KTD Drive Update

I've had several people ho have sent me blank USB Drives to burn them a KTD Drive.  Some have sent me a disk to copy the programs, so they can clone their KTD drives for others.

I ran into a problem.  The program I used to use to make ISO's of the drives doesn't support the root files system properly so the drives are not bootable properly.

There is a way around that though.

I'm copying the Adriane Knoppix ISO and Unetbootin with instructions on how to make bootable copies into the Burn Directory on the KTD Drive itself.

Those people who sent me a blank CD will get their CD's back, and the Burn dircetory on their KTD Drive.

Basically Copy the Burn and Preparedness Directories from your KTD drive to your hard drive.  It will take about 24 GB total.

To make a KTD Drive, plug a FORMATTED, full format NOT a Quick Formatted USB Thumb Drive into your USB port.

Then double-click on Unetbootin, on the bottom left where it says Diskimage, click that, then go to the end of that line and click on the browse button, it has the 3 dots like this "..." on it.  Browse to the Burn directory and click on the Adriane Knoppix ISO, then be sure to select the drive letter where the USB Thumb Drive is and click OK to start burning the ISO file to your USB Thumbdrive.

When it is complete Unetbootin will ask if you want to reboot, click no.  Remove the drive from your computer, then shut it down.

Put the USB Drive back in and turn your computer back on and enter setup during the BIOS POST test.

Go to the BOOT section and change your boot order so it boots from the USB drive first.

Save your changes and reboot your computer.

Your computer SHOULD boot from the new drive.  Let it fully boot, do NOT set the permanence on it yet.

Shut your computer down again, remove the drive and boot your computer normally.

Once it is fully booted, plug the drive in and open it through file manager.  Then copy the Preparedness folder into the root directory of the USB Thumb Drive.  It will take several hours to complete.  It doesn't matter how fast your computer is, it is the read/write rate of the drive which is the limiting factor..

If he person you are making the drive for is going to make other KTD Drives, also copy the Burn Directory over as well so they have the ISO of Knoppix and the Unetbootin program to burn it to a USB Drive.

I am on my last bunch of Drives to make, and I should have the last two going out in the morning mail.

If you want to send me a Drive to make one for you, please let me know before hand, so I know to make the trip to town to check the Post Office Box.

For further information please see the linked post:  KTD Drive Limted Time Only

And Yes, I have the stuff to change to oil on my truck, I just need a dry place to do it.  Thank you for the people who already sent me drives and enough to offset my costs for the P.O. Box and gas.

Read that post I linked to above if you like to send me a new still in the package drive to make a KTD Drive for you.  You can send some money with it, but it is NOT required.  It IS appreciated though.  It makes it easier to get things taken care of.

ETA:  the Video of me writing the Knoppix Operating System to a USB Drive and setting up my computer BIOS to boot from the USB Port.

KTD working on a new program to try to clone

the drives. The old program upgraded and suddenly it doesn't support making an .iso file. Not unless you want to buy the UPGRADE for $39.99 No thanks. I'll muddle along and try other things.

If you are getting the KTD Drive through the Torrent links

Please continue too stream the Torrents so others can obtain them.  I'm on very Slooooooww DSL and my upload speed is only 20 kps, and I ALWAYS have my BitTorrent open and streaming.  Although I've heard from several people that they are unable to d/l the Torrent even though I'm streaming it.

Blame AT&T for that.  I have it set to always stream the files.  And many times it seems like no one is d/ling it anymore and I get connection problems everywhere I try to browse.

So please if you can, Stream the torrents for the KTD Drive so others can get them.

I will try to find others who have much faster internet than I to host and stream the files as well.

KTD Drive

If you click on the link to buy a KTD Drive from Scott and try to buy one from him.  You will get no answer to your messages.  Scott was suffering from Cancer and it looked like he was winning the battle.  However after a round of Chemo he had to be admitted into the hospital and later died.

February 7, 2014 at 6:56 am

Scott passed at midnight. He was sleeping comfortably and with his family. Right now his Mother believes a memorial service will be held Sunday Feb 16. I will post details here when I know them.

He was a great man. We shall miss him much.

As such there is no way to purchase a ready made KTD Drive anymore.

I will be getting another P.O. Box in a few days and I will not Sell the drives however I will make drives for anyone who sends me a brand new in the packaging drive with a Self Addressed Stamped padded Mailer.

I will write all the files to the drive and mail it back to you.

Note: it takes a minimum of 3 hours just to burn the files to a drive.  So if you want to pay me 4 or 5 bucks to cover my expenses of gas, P.O. Box, electricity and time, I won't complain.  It is NOT required though.

The requirements:

A 32 GB USB thumbdrive brand new, still in it's original packaging.  If it is NOT in the original packaging, I'll just mail the drive back to you, I won't even touch it.

A Postage Pre-Paid Self Addressed Padded Mailer to return the completed drive to you.  The average postage to return the drive is just under $2.00.  Have the Post Office weigh the drive in it's packaging on the envelope, to get the proper postage.

I will get a P.O. Box this next week and will post it here on the Blog and update the KTD Drive page with that address.

I'm not in this to try to make money.  I just want to help people get information which may help them through life.

NOTE:  I will ONLY write the KTD Files to a SanDisk, PNY, or Kingston Drive.  NO EMTECH Drives or other discount drives.  It takes much longer to write the files to those other drives and they are not as reliable than the Main Brand name drives.

If you also send a blank CD-R I will burn the programs necessary so you can clone your KTD Drive for others, please just be sure it will fit in the mailer and is in a protective sleeve.

Please only 1 KTD Drive per envelope.  The old saying. "What they pay for, they'll value. What they get for free, they'll take for granted, and then demand as a right." Thank you Lois McMaster Bujold.  So I will only do 1 drive per person/address, and ONLY for a limited time.  How long that time will be, I don't know yet. I do have a life outside the KTD Project and this blog.

So this isn't an open ended offer.

If someone else want to take over writing these drives, and lets me know, as long as they aren't gouging people and not trying to make a bunch of money, they are more than welcome to.  If you live near Corpus and wouldn't mind hanging out while your drive is burned, you and I can meet up somewhere and talk while your drive is being written.  It WILL take several hours to be fully written so I'd need somewhere to plug in my netbook.

I'll update this post after I get the Post Office Box with the address.  Please DO NOT ask me to "Sell" you a drive.  If you cannot make the effort to purchase a drive and padded mailer, you aren't serious about this and just want a 'Toy' to put on your keyring to say you have one.

Also please tell me what size you want the "Permanence" file set to.  This is so any updates, or other settings are saved.  If you don't specify a permanence size, I will not set it up nor will I update the main system files.  You will have to set it yourself and install any updates.  I recommend setting the permanence to a Minimum 2 GB to allow for updates to be installed properly.

Modification to the KTD Project

I've been working on a modification to the KTD Project and I need some assistance with it.

If you will remember the KTD Project is a bootable USB Thumbdrive running Knoppix, which is a version of Debian Linux which boots most PC's from a USB Port.  It has the old CD3WD Third World Technology Files and a set of Extra files, mostly US Military Manuals on it.

I have been experimenting with using Micro SD memory cards that hold just the CD3WD files and the Extra files I put together on it.

My thoughts were to create a .ISO image which can be burned to the Micro SD card and then used in either an Android Cell Phone OR an Android Tablet.

I'm finding that the browser on my Android 2.2 Tablet and on my Android 2.3.7 Cell Phone won't read/access the files correctly.

So does anyone know a work around to allow the browser to view the files directly from the phone/tablet?

Also if anyone would like to help test the new version on their own Android based phone or tablet, I would appreciate the help.

If you are an App developer or would like a copy of the KTD Project on a Micro SD card for your android device please send me an e-mail through the Greylocke e-mail address over on the right side of the page under where it says "Send a Missive"  If you are reading this on your phone or mobile device you can also click on my name below and go to my user profile where my e-mail is also listed.

If you want the KTD Project on a Micro SD card you will have to send me a new still in the package 32 GB Micro SD card and a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope.  I will burn the ISO to the Micro SD card and mail it back to you.

As part of your payment for this, you will need to test the files and let me know how well you can access the files, if there are any glitches or holes.

I would really like to put out an updated .ISO of this project by Mid August.

I also would like to set up ways to spread the project even further with KTD Party's  Where one or two people bring in laptops with the .ISO on them and they can burn the .ISO's to people who attend own Micro SD or USB Thumbdrives.

If you are interested in that part as well, please send me an e-mail also.

I am still working on the UTD-1A project however I need someone local to me who has CNC Tooling and/or a 3D Printer to help me with that.

Again, if you want to help with that, send me an e-mail.

And for my NEXT Project.

I need help putting together a Free Reference and Education Library.

I would like to put together a complete library for everyone from Homesteaders/Preppers/Home-schooler's.

With Copyright Free texts on everything from small engine mechanics and repairs to veterinary and everything in between including a full k-12 education.  I'd like it to include a full free modern encyclopedia and other reference materials, Unabridged Dictionary, Thesaurus, PDR, etc.

That is a MAJOR challenge.  And not one I can easily do myself.  So if you can or know of someone who might be able to help, please once again, send me an e-mail.

If you are an educator and would like to provide some input, I'd be glad to have it.  If you can help assemble the proper texts that are free I'd be even more glad to have your help.

I know this would have to be in sections and sub-sections and that right there is where I need a lot of help.  To ensure everything goes into it's proper place.

And this project will be FREE.

It just needs to be downloaded.  I'm hoping to be able to fit it onto a 32 GB SD/Micro SD or USB Thumb Drive like the KTD Project.

The largest problem I'm seeing with it after assembling all of the information is to make it easily searchable so people can find the information they need quickly and easily.

Just another thing I'll need help with.

So please if you think you might be able to help with any of my projects, send me an e-mail.

I don't get paid for any of this and I try to do as much of this myself that I can.  But I also know I have limits to just what I can and cannot do.  So I need help.

Update your KTD Drive

If you have either Purchased a KTD Drive from Scott, made our own or I've sent you one, you need to make sure it gets updated regularly.

First boot your computer from your KTD Drive, then after it is booted into Knoppix, click on the Start button like you would a Windows computer, go up to Preferences, then click on the Synaptics Package Manager.  When the Package manager loads, click on Reload, to download all the current package information.

I just finished updating mine and I will be installing the Newest Version of TOR and TORChat for just in case.

So after you are fully updated, run your system for a while, and make sure you are familiar with how it works.

If you would like to know more about the KTD Project click on the following Link:

KTD Drive in Corpus Area

If you live near Corpus Christi and would like a drive for yourself, please send me an e-mail and we can set it up so I can burn the files for you to your own drive.  I'm not selling anything, you buy your own drive and we meet up.  It takes several hours to burn all the files to a drive, so don't expect a quick meet up.  Or you can meet me and give me the drive and we can then meet up again the next day and I'll give you the drive back.  Hit the greylocke e-mail over on the right to send me a message.

The required drive type is a 32 GB Thumb Drive, either Sandisk, Kingston or PNY new in package.  If you take it out of the package I won't touch it.  Too many chances of an infected drive to be passed.

So if you live near Corpus Christi and would like a KTD Drive of your own, send me an e-mail and we can set up a time for me to meet with you and I can copy the files to your own thumb drive.

You can also just order a drive from Scott, and he'll have it to you in about a week after you take the postal service into account.

KTD Project - Seeding

There has been much more interest in the KTD Project.  If you have downloaded the torrents for the project, I ask that you restart or continue to seed the torrents for the project.  The whole point of this project is to get this information out to as many people as possible.

We went from over 90 people seeding to currently only 6 people seeding according to my peers list.

So please, if you have downloaded either the CD3WD or the KTD Extra Files through the torrents, I ask that you seed the files so others may get them for themselves.

Thank you very much.

ETA: If you are trying to put together your own KTD Project drive and are having problems leave a comment on the KTD Project page or send me an e-mail.  I will do my best to help you get it going.

KTD Project - Active Duty Military Personnel

Addendum at bottom of page

Going through my logs I've noticed a lot of hits from .mil addresses on the KTD Project pages.  If you are on active duty and wish to get a KTD Project Thumbdrive, send me an e-mail.

All you will need to do is to send me a redacted copy of your ID Card a 32GB USB Thumbdrive still in the package and a Self Addressed Stamped Padded Envelope.  I will write the files to the thumbdrive and test it to make sure it works properly.  I will also update all the Knoppix/Debian Linux installation packages, then I will mail it back to you.

NO CHARGE..

This is for ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL ONLY!!!!!!!!

So send me an E-mail to my greylocke e-mail address over there on the right under where it says "Send a Missive".  I will e-mail you back with my address.  You send me a redacted photocopy of your Military Issued ID, just Name, Rank and Expiration date, use a sharpie to line out the rest, an UNOPENED 32GB USB Thumbdrive and a Self Addressed Stamped Padded Mailer.  I will do the rest and you should have the drive back to you inside of 10 days depending on the mail, or if you are overseas.

If the drive is NOT in it's original unopened packaging I WILL NOT DO IT.  I've already had to deal with 3 infected thumbdrives and it is a pain in the butt and it wastes my time to have to deal with them.  So new in the package ONLY and make sure to include the padded mailer.  The Postal Service's machines will either tear the envelope or damage the drive if it is not padded.

Everyone else if you don't want to download the files yourself and write them to the drive yourself, Scott sells them through his blog at the following link:  KTD Contact / Order Form

So to recap.  Active Duty Military Personnel can send me a redacted copy of their ID to prove to me they are on active duty, it MUST include their ID's Expiration Date, and the name better match the name on the return address.  There is a limit of ONE DRIVE per person, and you MUST e-mail me first.

After I get your e-mail, your name goes on my list for getting a drive.  When your drive gets here and gets sent back out I will check it off.  If I get a drive from someone NOT on my list it will be sent back unopened.  If you do not send me a redacted copy of your ID your drive gets sent back.  I won't take it out of the package I"ll just drop it in the return envelope and send it right back.

No e-mail beforehand, no copy of ID - No KTD.

I don't get paid for this.  I put this together to help as many people as I can, however I realize that many Active Duty Military personnel can't make the time necessary to put together their own drive and some of them can't afford to buy one from Scott.  For them, if they send me a drive I will put it together and send it back to them.

Now since I know some people have problems with comprehending things unless it is explained in the lowest common denominator, I reiterate for the third time.

THIS IS FOR ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL ONLY.  IF YOU ARE NOT ACTIVE DUTY OR AGR YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS.

#1: FIRST YOU MUST SEND ME AN E-MAIL TO HAVE YOUR NAME PUT ON THE LIST

#2: THEN YOU WILL SEND THE UNOPENED 32GB USB THUMBDRIVE, A SELF ADDRESSED POSTAGE PAID, PADDED ENVELOPE AND A REDACTED COPY OF YOUR ID TO ME.

#3: I WILL WRITE ALL THE FILES TO THE DRIVE, UPDATE THE OS FILES AND TEST IT, THEN MAIL IT BACK TO YOU.

The all caps is for the people who think they can get something for nothing.  And if they try to send me some photoshopped copy of an ID, their drive will just be sent back to them.

Now please, I'm disabled and I have 7 kids, please don't forget to include the return envelope and make sure it has the proper amount of postage.  The last 4 drives I've mailed out took about $1.97 each in postage.  If the postal rate went up again like they were talking about it may be higher.  If you are having it sent to an FPO or APO, I'm not sure how the postal rate for that would be.  So please make sure there is enough return postage.

Please do not send me any money, checks or anything like that.  Unless you want to add to my kids coin collection then 1 small foriegn coin would be ok as long as it doesn't mess up the postage rate.

So hit my greylocke e-mail address over there on the right.  NOT the Mark e-mail address that one is only checked once a week.  I will add you to the list of people I am expecting a drive from.  I will e-mail you back with my address.  You send me the drive, return envelope and the REDACTED copy of your ID. Depending on the mail you should have it back in about 10 days, unless I get swamped.  It takes about 4-6 hours to write the files to a drive and about 2 hours to update and configure the files.  So hopefully I'll have it back out in the mail to you a day or two after I get it.  After I mail it off back to you I will send you another e-mail letting you know it's on the way.

The final addendum.  No, no one can date one of my daughters or ask for their pictures, e-mail addresses or Facebook pages. (I used to be in the Army Reserve, I know how most of them think)  Thank you for asking, but I don't own nearly enough firearms if everyone starts asking.  (My lame attempt at humor)

ETA: These drives can be accessed without using them to boot a computer.  I've accessed the files through Windows, Mac OS 10 and Android 2.3  To access them through an Android device you will need to use a USB Adapter which is available on Amazon and Ebay for less than $6.00.  Also through an e-mail I've had concerns expressed to me that I might be trying to pass off Malware.  All I can say is ask Chris Muir of the Day by Day comic if I have sent him something with Malware.  There are a few other bloggers who I have sent the drives to, I won't name them unless they give me permission to, but they have the same exact file setup on their drives that I and my 4 oldest kids carry with us everywhere.  My kids and I each carry a different manufacturer drive but the info on them is the same.

Once again, I'm not trying to make money off of this project.  I am trying to get as many people as possible to have the information they can use to help themselves and others.

If you have any questions about the drives and the information on them, you can post a comment or send me an e-mail, if you have google talk you can send me an IM using my greylocke ID.  If you have a drive already and have a problem please let me know.  I want this to be easy to use, easy to access and distributed to as many people as possible.

A Day in the Life's current project list

Or to be more precise Mark aka GreyLocke's project list.

The KTD Project is at about 93% done.  I am still working on some issue with the HTML for the Extra Files.

The UTD 1A Project, is about 20%, I need some legal help, some Ubuntu Linux help and 3D printer help with it.

The Preparedness Videos Project is stalled.  Evidently no one wishes to get their visage or name out there and I am the only person making videos for it at the time.

My "Stick it in Vice President Biden's Eye Project" is ongoing.  I have found a female volunteer and I may have found someone local to me to help with filming the video.  I'm hoping that I may be able to find someone with an AR-15 M4gery who would be willing to donate the use of their rifle and 1 mag full of ammo for the video and also someone with any decent 9mm with a 15 round or higher magazine and I'd be willing to pay for 2 mag fulls of ammo if it can even be found.  As it is I'm crying a little bit about using my .45 ACP as it is nowhere to be found here locally and I'm dipping into my stash.  If everything goes right I may be able to film the video this week and get it edited together and posted to youtube by this weekend.

There is a continuation of the Stick in Biden's eye video that I'm thinking about, but I would need someone with an apartment.  No shooting would be done, just weapons handling in the confines of a smaller setting.  My house is rather open with only 1 real hallway and it's more than wide enough for my wheelchair, so it's not the best for explaining maneuvering through tight space with a honking long double barrel shotgun.  If anyone local to the Corpus Christi area wouldn't mind us waving safed weapons in their home for about 30 minutes for filming please hit the GreyLocke e-mail over there on the right.  ------------------>

Requesting a legal opinion

If you are a Licensed Practicing Attorney familiar with federal and constitutional law, could I ask for some pro bono assistance?

It is in reference to my UTD 1A project.  I have a few files that have been sent to me that I am not sure of the legality of.

You do not need to go to court or file any papers.  I'm just asking you to look over some of the files I'm concerned about and to let me know if I am in the clear or in the grey area Constitutionally.

I'm a broke blogger so I'm asking if you would be willing to donate at most an hour of your time to look over these files.  I want to start getting them out, but I don't wish to run afoul of the law.  Or have someone try to come after me civilly later.

If you can help please use the GreyLocke e-mail address over there on the right under where it says "Send a Missive"

Thank you

KTD Project

I asked Chris Muir of the Day By Day Web Comic which is there at the top of the blog, if he could post a link to the KTD Project.  Well it is now live over there at DayByDay.Com Scroll down until you see the Red And Black thumbdrive with the words "Get Ready".  That is the link back to the KTD Project page.

Thank you Chris for the link.  I hope this will help more people get some information which can help them in case of emergency.

I am also still working on the UTD 1A Project, and I hope to have a preliminary release by this weekend.

And someone just tried to hack my e-mail account

after I posted about the UTD 1A Project and while I was trying to post this it happened AGAIN.

Someone is already trying to hack my passwords, and I've had to change my password twice so far in the last 10 minutes.

So I wonder who is trying to do this?

KTD Project - UTD 1A Project

After an e-mail exchange with someone who I won't name at the moment unless he says it is alright, I am starting another KTD which won't actually be Knoppix but uses Ubuntu Linux so the new project will be UTD 1A Project.  Why 1A?

The First Amendment gives us the right to Free Speech.  Even speech that someone finds offensive.  You STILL have the right to say it.

Well this is my speech.

There is a Legislator, (I won't say whom) who wants to make the printing or making of your own firearms, weapons or parts, ILLEGAL.  That is not just restricting your 2nd Amendment Rights, but your 1st Amendment Rights as well.  This Legislator wants to make the dissemination of this "INFORMATION" restricted and or illegal.

So what I am going to try to do, is to create another drive.  This one will have all the necessary software to machine or print, your files, plus as many of the pertinent files as I can get together.

I will be making them available for ANYONE!!!!  Through uploading to one of my cloud accounts plus I will be seeding the files out as torrents as well.

So I am asking for your help.  If you know where these files are or have access to them, SEND THEM TO ME.

I am right now downloading the LinuxCNC files and I am going to try to figure out how to set them up on a USB Thumb Drive like the KTD Project.  That is going to be taking a LOT of my time.  So please I seriously need your help.

If you know where or have the controller software for a 3D printer that can be used on a home brew printer, I need it.  If you have the data files for printing or CNCing these parts, I need them.

Send them to me.

The UTD 1A Projects Main Page

Right now where I am standing is the LinuxCNC.org sofatware, I'm looking for a Linux Cad program, the printer controller software which hopefully runs with LinuxCNC.  All the necessary files for the parts ie: receivers, magazines, fire control groups, sights, mounts, anything and everything.

Right now a full KTD Drive is just under 29GB and I've been using 32GB thumb drives.  Most computers will boot from a 32 GB USB Thumb Drive depending on the manufacturer, but so far only 2 of the ones I have tried will boot from a 64GB drive.  So the space hard limit we are looking for is under 25GB so we maintain a large enough permanence file on the drive for any necessary updates.

Hit my e-mail over there on the right if you can help.  there will be a new page created specifically for this project with all the necessary links to the files and any updates.

Pass the link for this post around please:  http://tinyurl.com/utd1a

And please use the greylocke e-mail address over on the right

Removable media- hidden viruses

As part of my KTD-Project I purchase several different type of Removable media.  USB drives, SD cards and the such.  I recently got one that was infected by "8 Gigabytes" of something which had virus like coding on it.

It was a simple 32 GB USB Thumb drive, but as I put it in my USB Port, my anti virus wouldn't let the driver for it load.   Hmmm, that's curious.  So I looked at the drive a different way.  I booted into safe mode and then put the drive in the port and opened it's properties.  It was a 32GB drive that already had 8.2 GB of "Something" on it.

Tha "Something" didn't show when the drive was open, even though my system is setup to show me ALL my files including hidden and system files.  But it wouldn't show me what was hidden on this particular thumbdrive.

I called a friend and following his advice I opened a Hex Editor and looked at the drive that way.

As I told my friend what I found, he told me "STOP!"  That drive is virused!

So together we worked out how to use one of my much older systems to low level format it like it was an old style IDE Drive, then format it with Windows.

I now have a "Blank" 32GB drive, and I contacted the company I bought it from to let them know.  They were so happy I let them know, they gave me a partial refund of the purchase price.

And No I won't give out their name as they are only purchasing this type of drive from 2 different suppliers, and reselling it.  They are now pulling spot checks on their stock and are contacting their suppliers to find out how this happened, and how to ensure it hopefully doesn't happen again.

So, if you don't have your Anti-virus setup to scan ALL of your drives, including your removable drives, you need to change your settings so it does.  Plus make sure you run DAILY Virus Scans.  I've posted about the various programs I use and the schedule I use.  In fact Next week I'll probably be on the netbook for a few days, as my detail scans are due for running, and they take 2 to 3 days to run with all the hard drive space I have (Over 5 TB).

If you don't know how to change your settings to scan all of your drives including removable storage devices, contact your A/V's company and check their support forums.

Or you can post a comment and I'll try to help you.

Remember you want Daily virus scans and you want ANYTHING that plugs into your computer scanned.  Yes it slows my computer down some by having everything scanned, but I'd rather my computer be a bit slower than to get hit with a virus or malware.

KTD Project update

Well, I have some good news and some bad news.

Good news a friend of mine has created a small program which allows me to automtically create the proper html so you can view the extra files that I put together properly through a browser.  Making it much easier toaccess the files you want and to navigate them properly.  I have tested them under windows and they work very good.

Bad news, Knoppix has an issue with how the new html for the Extra files are written, and is giving me fits.

The hope is to get the file working properly so anyone who has already created or purchased a KTD Project drive can just download a small (Under 30kb) file and write it to their drive.  Then they could navigate all of their files through the Iceweasel browser in Knoppix, or their Windows Internet Browser (IE, FF, Safarii, etc) if they are just using it for it's library function.

My friend who wrote the little program for me is aware of the problem and is looking for a solution.

The end hope is that when we are done, you will download the one file and copy it to your drive and copy 1 file to the Knoppix desktop.  Clicking on that would automatically load Iceweasel and you would have a page the presents you with two links.

One for accessing the CD3WD files, the other for accessing the  Extra files section.

I, Scott and my friend, who when I asked him if he wanted credit for his work, gave me a response that tells me he reads Bujold, a reward for a good job is another job, and no thanks, but the three of us are working on making this the best we can, while taking all the brainwork and confusion out of it as much as possible.

(I probably should have made that 2 or even 3 sentences, talk about a run-on sentence.)

So let it be known "I" at least have no intention of letting this project go idle.  We are constantly trying to find ways to improve it and make it easier to use, and I hope I can get a few things on my hard drive cleaned up enough and get the missing pieces, so they can be added to the extra files section.

If you are knowledgeable in Debian/Knoppix and would like to help, my E-mail is over there on the right under where it says "Send a Missive"  Please use the GreyLocke e-mail address as the other ones isn't checked that often.

KTD Project - Premade USB Thumbdrives

Scott over at The Fat Guy Blog has started to put together ready made KTD Project Thumbdrives.  The cost is $30.00, $35.00* which includes the 32 GB USB Thumbdrive.  He is currently using the Sansdisk drives which are running about $19.99 before shipping, so he is only getting $10.00 $15.00** for the amount of work he is putting in making the drives.  And it is a lot of work.  He had to download all of the Torrents and other files, extract them, then first install the Knoppix Operating system on the drive, and then copy all of the files to the drive.  I know it takes me about 4 to 5 hours just to get a drive ready from a blank drive to a finished one, depending on which manufacturers drive I'm using.  So it takes some time to do this.  So getting $10.00 for all this work is actually cheap, plus you drive will be brand new.  Scott is ordering them off of Amazon, not buying them in a store.

If you want to order one for yourself the links below will take you to his main page and his ordering page.

*Price change

** After shipping and Paypal's cut Scott was barely clearing $4.00 on each drive for what is a lot of work, so he increased the price by $5.00 to cover Paypal's fees and to help cover more of his investment of time and money.  Considering it takes at least 2 hours just to write the files to a USB Thumbdrive, I don't blame him for raising the price and fully concur with his doing so.  So please don't think he is trying to gouge you in any way.  He has done a lot of work on this and is still working on an easier way of accessing the extra files I put together

So if you want to get a KTD Project drive for yourself, click on those links or if you don't want to spend the money and want to do it yourself click on the below link to go to my instruction page:

KTD Project

Office Depot has the EMTECH 32 GB drive on sale for 14.99 however the drive takes almost twice as long to write the files to, and the EMTECH drives are NOT recognized by all computers.  Specifically some older Compaq, Dell and Toshiba laptops will NOT boot from the EMTECH drive at all, although those computers will boot from my Kingston, Sansdisk and PNY drives.  So be aware, you WILL get what you pay for.

So for now I would only recommend the Kingston, Sansdisk and PNY drives.

If you need to remove the U3 system from a Sansdisk drive the link from Sansdisk to do so is :
