The Employment/Educational divide

Reuters has a story posted in Yahoo news about the lack of qualified manufacturing job applicants.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. manufacturers are failing to fill thousands of vacant jobs, surprising when 14 million people are searching for work."

So many US Manufacturing Jobs , So few skilled workers

The problem according to the article has become more acut in the last 3 years. Last 3 years? Hmmm somehow that has a significance. As more and more people are graduating with a liberal arts degree, many businesses are clamoring for qualified and experienced engineers, machine operators you know "Skilled" applicants. Many of the "Occupy" idiots are recent Liberal Arts Graduates who have no, ZERO, NONE actual real world skills. Yet they expect someone to hand them a high paying job directly out of school. When the reality of that not happening hits them, you have these selfsame "Liberal Arts" grad in the streets protesting.

Part of this is the educational systems fault. They are not keeping up with the times, teaching a skill set this is a few years behind the current technology curve. Once again according to the article, fewer math and science graduates are graduating each year. And those are areas in very high demand. An engineering graduate with some real world experience can expect a job paying from 65,000 to 90,00 a year straight out of school. That is if they are willing to make a few sacrifices, such as moving to where the job is, and actually working in the field or on the production room floor. That is a heck of a lot better than making 14,000 to 22,000 a year at a fast food restaurant or a big-box store.

Thousands of jobs are out there for the right qualified person. The problem is the slackers sitting in front of Wall Street and in the various downtown area, don't want to actually work. They want everything handed to them on a silver platter.

"Give me this give me that, I don't want to be responsible for my own actions"

Sounds like a bunch of spoiled rotten kids to me, who are now throwing a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted. They want a good paying job, but their degree is in a subject that no one currently hiring needs. They want their loans paid off, oh they are in so much debt getting their degree. Why won't someone pay it all off for them so they don't actually have to, you know, work.

And the liberal education institute, keeps taking their money and cranking them out, while telling them, "You are owed something because you have this piece of paper that will be worthless in the real world"

Uh huh. They are owed something all right a swift kick in the pa toot for actually believing those socialist in their school.

I'm done for now.

From his Blog:

"You live in a city. You don't know how to change a tire or oil. You don't know how to build a fire. You can't communicate without a cell phone. You can't fix your plumbing. You can't set up your own wifi. You're untrained in basic economics, chemistry, physics and history. You can't prepare food without packages, and aren't even aware that food has to be processed from root or bone before that. You only know and get paid for one very specialized task.

"Hmmmm…it’s convenient that Mexican drug lords are now so well armed with US assault weapons. Of course the illegals are scared to go back to Mexico. It’s a bloody mess south of the border thanks to Eric Holder and his crew. He’s created a nightmare scenario so that….

1. He can justify pushing for the elimination of our 2nd amendment right and…

2. Illegal immigrants can seek asylum here in the US for fear of falling victim to Mexican drug cartels.

It’s called killing 2 Obama birds with one assault rifle."

I don't think that means what you think it means.

Evidently "Reality" has bit them in the tuckus and they don't like it. Well I'm sorry, that is what happens in the real world. So put on your big boy underwear and your big girl panties, and deal with it.

h/t Ace

My thoughts on this are as such:

You are not guaranteed a job on graduation, so watch out how much debt you take on to buy that education.

You are not guaranteed the job you got your degree for, so be sure it's the right degree.

You are not guaranteed that even if you find a job in the field you want, and the pay is decent, that you still won't blow your money on stupid things instead of paying down your debt.

You are not guaranteed that someone will hold your hand and wipe your nose and bottom when you make a boo-boo or a mess.

You are not guaranteed that your boss will spend his profits, you know the reason he or she is business in the first place for, to better your life instead of theirs.

Now here are a few things that ARE guaranteed.

You are guaranteed that if you bust your butt and work hard. You will "EARN" an honest wage. It may not be the wage you think you deserve, but it will be an honest one.

You are guaranteed that if you look professional and act professional most people will treat you as a professional.

You are guaranteed that if you give respect to others, most will give it back to you.

You are guaranteed that life may not be fair, but everything is on the wheel and it WILL come around in the end, whether you are there to see it or not.

You are guaranteed that if you do good work, you will be recognized. Whether that recognition is from where or who you want it from, well that's NOT guaranteed.

And the most important thing, you are guaranteed that if you whine and moan and complain about hard life is, and camp out in the street to "protest" how you feel, and and demand what you "think" you are owed, you will get nothing but ridicule and derision from the vast majority of people who are still busting their butts and providing for themselves and their families.

(Just in case someone tries to wipe out the so-called demands I went to Freezepage.com and had their site take a snapshot of the entire page including the comments up to about 12:50 p.m. on October 11, 2011,which is visible at http://www.freezepage.com/1318355537WGMFGJWONA so later on they can't say, "Oh, we never said that." Right, like anyone other than the MSM and the Liberal left will believe that.)

So please get off your high horses and actually start trying to HELP resolve the situation. Instead of taking up space, making a mess and showing the rest of the world just how uncouth you actually are. ( and please check out all the links. I could have made every single letter a link to a news story or video, but I got tired of all the typing.)

So as you see, YOU are part of the Problem. You know the old saying.....

If you are not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Well you are definitely part of the problem. You are being used. Your anger and frustration are being directed at the very establishments that create most of the jobs in this country. And before you say that I am a shill for the right wing conservative conspiracy, HERE is ANOTHER link for you to check out.

Tell me that you aren't being used.

Tell me, who has more to gain from your civil disobedience and protests.

Use that thing on top of your shoulders as something other than a place to park a pair of sunglasses or a hat on.

Do you honestly believe you are hurting the major institutions?

Do you honestly believe for one second that they actually CARE about what you have to say?

The only thing you've done to them is made them come in the back entrance or use the helicopter to get to their office, if they even went there. Or they could have used your actions as an excuse to take a vacation, taking their $$ outside of the country and spending it to stimulate someone else's economy.

Please get real, wake up and smell the coffee, oh excuse me the Latte'.

You people are nothing but little tools for the left wing and when they are done using you up, they will discard you like a dull razor.

Hit the nail on the head

Go over to Michael Z. Williamson's Blog and read his thoughts on the Occupy whatever protests.

Uhhhh, Really?

When a Civil Rights hero and Congressman get dissed THIS badly by the uniformed mindless zombie sheeple, who think that their protest actually means something, it shows me that their beliefs now means nothing to me. These individuals evidently were badly ill served by their education, if they graduated from any school of higher learning, that school should have it's accreditation revoked. You do NOT treat people who were on the cusp of the Civil Rights movement and one of the Freedom Riders, as if they are inconsequential know nothings. This man had his skull beaten in by Alabama troopers for daring to stand up for what he believes in. Almost every day of his life during the fight for Civil Rights, this man was assaulted, denigrated, threatened and a host of other abuses upon his dignity and his very life. And THESE IDIOTS treated such a man as lower than trash. He deserves respect as a Congressman granted, but he deserves MUCH MUCH more, because his actions during the Civil Rights Movement, the blood he and countless others spilled, the untold deaths and outright MURDERS, brought about the political situation so these IDIOTS can even hold their "Protest". I am sorry, for their actions, these, I won't even allow them the dignity of being a member of my species, these, sub-human misanthropes need to treated like a mad pet, neutered or spayed before they can cause a population explosion of their idiocy and stupidity, if not being euthanized for the betterment of man-kind.

Congressman Lewis, you have my utmost and humble regards, and even though you and I are 180 degrees opposite politically I would still find myself to be honored in your very presence, and more than honored to ever be allowed to hear you speak publicly. You Sir are a living example of the American dream that those guttersnipes seek to tear down and destroy out of their own selfishness and ignorance.

Back?

Ok, lets start.

I've talked about my dislike for standardized tests on my show before, and my exact reasons for my dislike. The main reason is teachers will stop actually teaching, and will only teach "THE TEST". They will only teach the items that will be on the "Standardized" Test. That isn't what I want my kids to learn. I have said for years that a teachers main job is to teach a child to "THINK" If a child cannot think properly how do we expect them to function in society? If they suddenly find themselves outside of the teaching they received, how will they deal with the situation? The "TEST" is no help when you find yourself confronted with a situation which wasn't in the textbook, wasn't in the notes you took and it wasn't on the "Test". What are our kids going to do? These days when a child doesn't understand something the teachers practically give them the answers, then drill them so they remember the answers, all so they can pass "The Test". I'm sorry but when my kids ask me a question I have a standard response. "Look it up." I have 5 sets of encyclopedias in the house, 2 sets of Britannica's, a set of Grolier World Books, a set New Book Of Knowledge and a set of Schoolastic Encyclopedias. Then we have the internet, with sources such as Wikipedia, Britannica On-line and many other sources. There is the Kahn Academy for help with math, and other web-sites that a quick search can turn up. There is also the public library in town where the kids can check out a particular book on a subject they need help with. All of my kids are A and B students. There are a few areas where each has difficulty, but for the most part all of my kids are close to straight A students. I'm not bragging about, it's the truth. Because in my house if you ask a question, you will have to look it up, and my kids have found out a lot of things besides what they were looking up. Think of Wiki-wandering only with encyclopedias. One subject is connected to another, so you read up on that too because it looks interesting, my largest problem with my kids believe it or not is getting their noses OUT of a book to do their chores, well that and they demolish my pantry on a regular basis.

Granted in some cases the parent does have a lot to do when a child under performs at school, but not always. I'd look at all of the students in a teachers class. And he/she has many students under performing, I would seriously look at just how that teacher is doing their job. Because if they aren't teaching the students to actually think, just what are they teaching?

The attacks on Mitt Romney through his religion.

Now first a few disclaimers here before I start.

#1: I am not Mormon, I don't agree with some of the things represented in Mormonism.

#2: I don't like Mitt Romney, in fact I think he is a bag full of hot air who doesn't deserve to be an elected official, be it a dog catcher or the good Lord forbid the President.

#3: I like Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Sarah Palin, but my dream ticket is Fred Thomson and Joe Lieberman.

#4: I am an Ordained Non-Denominational Christian Minister. I have very LARGE issues with "Organized" Religion.

Now saying all that The Baptist Minister Robert Jeffers referred to Mitt Romney's Religion, Mormonism, as a "Cult". He defended his remarks and said he would still prefer Romney over the current resident of the White House. However he differentiates Mormonism as a "Theological" Cult instead of a "Sociological" Cult. Nice weasel wording there Brother Jeffers.

I did a little digging to see just how small this supposed "Cult" is.

Now granted the website I went to is run by the Mormon church, so it may bit a bit biased, but here are some numbers.

  • Worldwide, there are over 13 million Mormons, nearly the same as the number of Jews.
  • In the United States the LDS Church is the 4th largest individual denomination with over 5.5 million members, a population about equal to the number of Muslims.
  • Only 12% of all Mormons live in Utah. Most Mormons do not live in North America.
  • Aside from the United States, other regions with significant numbers of Mormons include Mexico and Asia (1 million members each), South America (3 million members), and Central America and Europe (about half a million each). The rapid growth the Church has been experiencing in Africa, where the number of Mormons already passes a quarter of a million, is particularly exciting.
  • After Catholics, the LDS Church is the largest religion by number in ten U.S. states.

Hmmm, now that is interesting. What is the worldwide breakdown according to their site?

Wow! If this is true, the Mormon Church seems to be an EXTREMELY large "Cult". Most cults never number more than a few hundred, unless you're speaking about Scientology, but even they don't claim 13 million members.

That is a lot... Hmmm I don't know of any "Cult" that has that large of a representation anywhere outside of Hollywood.

And if you want to see these numbers for yourself, here is the website I got them from. LINK

Now for someone to attack any candidate over their religion, I think is absolutely stupid and asinine. This country was built on the ideals of Religious freedom. As long as their religion doesn't harm others, it shouldn't matter. But of course their are the small minded people who think anyone who espouses their religion is wrong. I'm directing that comment to the Atheist idiots, who do their best to force their belief that they should be free from religion, and try to force their beliefs down everyone elses throat at the tip of litigation. In fact I think all the atheists have reached a point of being an organized religion, and should be sued to stop their religious interference in everything from private or public displays of Crosses to the Political correct movement they started.

I'm about to start a rant, so I'm going to bed.

It has started

The Democrats are already starting the play to ensure Barrack Obama retains the Presidency. With their assault on Justice Clarence Thomas, they hope to be able to either force him to recuse himself from any litigation as it refers to the upcoming presidential election, or to have him impeached so they can attempt to stack the Supreme Court with their own nominee. To see the start of this fight go here. This is just the opening shot of the battle for the Democrats to maintain control of the White House. With the upcoming election you know that there will be lawsuits filed. Just as in the Florida recounts there will be lawsuits and recounts, and voter fraud.

So the Democrats are attempting to head off the challenges beforehand by getting rid of Justice Thomas, so they can stack the court our if they can't get rid of him throw enough mud his way that he would be forced to recuse himself, giving them an edge with the court.

A new addition to the firearms cabinet - Farmers Guns

The top one. I added the bottom one a few months back I just haven't posted it. There on the wall over my bed is what is commonly called the farmers collection. It usually consists of a single shot 12 or 20 gauge shotgun and a .22 rifle. The only thing I need to add to this would be either an H&R or Iver Johnson 9 shot .22 double action revolver.

Now to describe the firearms in question. The top is a New England Firearms single shot break open 12 gauge with a 2 and 3/4 inch chamber and modified choke. You can find these weapons in varying conditions and prices ranging from poor to excellent condition and priced anywhere from $40.00 to $175.00. I got this one at the local pawn shop after some negotiation for $90.00.

The .22 pump underneath it is the Sears model of the Savage Model 29A take down. It fires .22 shorts, longs and long rifle, it holds 14 .22 long rifle or 24 .22 shorts. I haven't found any .22 longs here locally yet to see how many it will hold.

These two firearms with the previously mentioned H&R or IJ 9 shot revolver, were the most common firearms found in a farmers gun rack. They would be used for everything from hunting rabbits and killing hogs for slaughter, to deer and varmint hunting. As a kid on my uncle's farm he had an old H&R Topper in 12 gauge and an old Stevens .22 single shot bolt action rifle on the rack, with an Iver Johnson 9 shot .22 revolver. Most houses in the area had almost the same weapons with just a few differences, a few had side by side 12 or 20 gauge shotguns but all of them had a shotgun, .22 rifle and a .22 handgun.

Now I do have a Heritage Arms .22 Single Action revolver, but I still want an old 9 shot double action .22 revolver just like my uncle had.

So if you have one of the old H&R or IJ 9 Shot .22 revolvers and don't mind haggling and horse trading my e-mail is over on the right.

I've been Blacklisted!!!!

I will also add this in so it's on the main page.

What did I do or write THIS time?

If this is you gimme a hollar.

Thoughts on Tactical accesories

I read quite a few blogs and have many friends who have what many would call "Tacti-cool", that is firearms with many tactical accessories attached. You have seen the pictures and many of you have probably checked out the various web sites and printed catalogs, drooling over this or that. One of my friends once accused me of being Tacti-cool with my SKS and 2 of my shotguns. I've posted pictures of them before so I won't now as I don't want to look through the several thousand photos in over a hundred different directories on my computer. But yes I have a folding stock on my SKS and my Maverick 88 shotgun and my High Standard is a pistol grip only weapon. The high standard I purchased from a retired sheriff in Missouri, and the only thing I've done to it was get rid of the ridiculous 3 point sling it had on it and removed the heat shield from the barrel. That's it. I'm not adding on something to one of my weapons unless I have an actual need or use for that accessory.

My Romanian SKS has an ATI folding stock, TAPCO fully adjustable rear sight, and green neon front sight. I do have several detachable 30 round magazines for it but I've had to spend several hours hand fitting the magazines to the rifle to allow them to function properly without double feeding, FTF's or FTE's. Most of the time I have the 10 round non-detachable steel magazine it came with in it. Why? The detachable mags are only used when I take the kids out plinking at cans and empty plastic bottles. They enjoy being able to shoot 30 rounds without having to reload. Me I HATE the 30 round detachable mags. Why? they had to be hand fitted, which took me over 6 hours, I have issues when trying to shoot from a prone position with them, whereas the 10 round mag I have no feeding problems and can shoot from the prone position quite comfortably. I do have a 4x scope and mount which replaces the reciever cover, however this is a 100 to 150 yard rifle The scope and it's mount is bulky, throws of the center of balance of the rifle and I cannot get a good cheek weld when using the scope. For some long distance plinking from the bench it's not bad but With the scope the target still better be inside 200 yards or it's useless. Inside 200 yards I can still use the iron sights quite well.

The Maverick 88. I installed an ATI folding stock and an 18.5 inch barrel on it. Besides using some white ut on the front bead that is about it, other than smoothing up the shell elevator, extractors and ejector with a needle file and some emory cloth. My next addition to it will be some good sling mounts and a decent sling. The only reason it and my SKS have folding stocks is so they can pack away better in the truck. They won't fit behind the seat with the stock extended. Folded I have an extra 8 inches of room for my .50 cal ammo can full of ammo.

The High Standard, was the duty shotgun of a sheriff, he carried it since he bought it new when he got hired back in I believe he said 1962, and it went with him every where. It had the original stock cut down to a pistol grip, and side saddle shell holder, barrel heat shield and a funky 3 point sling on it when I bought it from him for 180.00 in 1991. Well I removed the sling and the heat shield. I am actually looking for a new buttstock so I can put this back to original other than retaining the side saddle. It too fits behind the seat of the truck easily. But after I get the new stock for it it will probably become a safe queen.

All of my pistols, are either factory stock, for plinking, or have pachmeyer grips for my carry guns. My 2 carry guns are my 1911A1, the only mods are the wrap around grips and some white out on the sights. That is it. My .38 special Taurus, pachmeyer grips and I stoned the sear to get rid of an annoying burr when fired double action.

All of my mods are for my ease of use. I don't need laser sights, an ACOG, night vision, flashlights etc ad nauseum. I need reliable, easy to transport, easy to use with no confusing geegaws hanging off it that will either get in the way or it's batteries will fail at an inopportune moment.

The adage's I try to follow are very easy to remember.

I've found that the way I have my weapons setup, serves me and my kids just fine. Plus it means I have more $$ for ammo to take the kids shooting more often.

Department of Homeland Security snitch sheet

I am someone to be watched. Because I buy lots of ammunition, MRE's, Night Vision and all the stuff I circled. Ammo cans are good for storing tools so the don't rust in Texas Humidity. Meals Ready To Eat, (MRE's) are good for when the kids and I go to the beach or when I'm driving to St. Louis, My night vision monocular lets me know if the dogs are barking at a coyote or someone is walking through the property, High capacity magazines make it a lot easier to enjoy shooting instead of reloading a magazine after 5 or 10 rounds, plus they're fun, bi-pods make it so I can shoot more accurately at long distances such as when I wanted to enter competitions. But according to the DHS, I'm a possible threat. What a load of malarkey.

The only possible threat I can be is to someone who wants to hurt myself or others. I have no intention of hurting anyone, in fact I abhor violence. That doesn't mean however that I will stand idly by while someone attacks someone else. I will contact the police and if I see that someone's life is in danger, I WILL step in. All life is precious and no one has the right to hurt someone else for any reason outside of war. When I joined the Army Reserve way back in 85 I joined up to be a medic. I wanted to serve my country, however I didn't and still don't feel comfortable with the idea of taking the life of another. That doesn't mean however that if push came to shove, I will use whatever means necessary to save someone's life. Even if it means I have to take the life of another. If it ever came to pass that I had to use deadly force, I probably would need to see a psychologist for a bit.

I was born in St. Louis, Mo. However I spent many a summer at my Uncles farm in North Central Arkansas. I learned many valuable lessons from my uncle. I learned that racism is wrong from a man who was as racist as a Klansman, but he had served in the Armed forces where black men saved his own life many times. As my uncle told me once, "I was raised a racist, I'm not raising you to be that way." He knew he was racist and he admitted it, just as he admitted that he knew it was wrong, but every day of his life he treated everyone white, black, indian, asian it didn't matter, the same way. With respect. It was from him I think I got my feelings about taking a life. He had been in war, had killed men from far away and up close and personal. He told me, that you did everything you could to avoid doing it, but when the time comes there is no other choice, well, you don't have a choice morally. You do what must be done to protect others.

It is people like me, that the DHS says are a threat. Returning servicemen and women, veterans, people who care about what this country is and what it is supposed to stand for. We are threats somehow, because we believe that no one should have to live their life in fear of assault, robbery or personal harm. And yet the people who commit those crimes are not even on the radar of federal law enforcement agencies. Instead the federal agencies are trying to enforce another countries laws on our businesses and citizens.

What happened to us?

He just doesn't get it...

President Obama just doesn't get it.

He blusters and demands, but he has no real plan.

No real, defined goals.

No, nothing.

He stands up in front of the TV cameras and mouths what his speechwriters and advisers have written. But he doesn't have a clue. Hope and Change. Those were his by-words as he was running for president.

I just hope his "Change" doesn't bankrupt this country. Or is that Hope you will get some Change from a passerby?

Either way, he doesn't seem to realize his petty antics and demands and spending practices have brought the country to the state it is in. To him it's everyone else's fault. The Republicans fault, the Tea-party's fault, Anybody's else's fault but his.

He doesn't see that his demand for more taxes so he can continue his spending will hurt not just our economy but our Job Creators. The people who are the backbone of our economy. And if the job creators have to pay more in taxes they are going to want to make less money to ease their tax burden. Hundreds of small companies have already down sized enormously to reduce their costs and their tax burdens. Large mega corporations have already shifted millions if not billions of dollars to their over-seas divisions to lessen their tax burdens. Jobs are leaving this country at an alarming rate.

Yet according to President "Tax the Rich" Obama these companies need to pay more. When they are already providing over 60% of the taxes that run this country to begin with. How much more can they pay before it breaks the company's? Not much more as dozens of company's near me have already started to shift their operations to the Caribbean, Asia and in one case the owner is moving to Guatemala. He has a multi-million dollar company, and when I talked to him 2 weeks ago he told me he can't afford either Obama-care or more taxes. So he's laying off his 43 employees who each make $50,000 plus a year. And moving his operation to central america. Where he will be paying less than $15,000 a year per employee, plus his material costs and taxes will be much lower. What does this man's company do? They make electronics mounts for boats. Some of his mounts are used in Navy and Coast Guard boats. And now because our President doesn't "Get It", he is losing not just the taxes, he, as a company owner paid. But the taxes his employee's paid. Who are now going to be joining the unemployment rolls to the detriment of our country's overall balance sheet.

Great Job Mr. President.

Does someone need to hit you with a "Clue" hammer to get you to understand basic economics?

Think about it.

The "War Against Photography" and "Contempt Of Cop"

This Article discusses the on going "War Against Photography". Police Officers, Security Officers, Watchmen, Guards and Court Officers, have used their positions Under The Color Of Authority to harass, arrest and even assault persons who are merely taking a photo or video recording something. Whether what is being photographed or recorded is the "Officer's" action or conduct or anything else, is immaterial. It IS a legal behavior protected under the Constitution of the United States. Particularly the Fourteenth Amendment, guaranteeing "Due Process Under The Law", where the Government and it's Agents, (ie: Police, TSA, Federal Law Enforcement and any persons operating under their authority, City, County, State or Federal) MUST adhere to the same Laws they are enjoined to enforce. How is an officer with a dash cam and an audio recorder in his shirt pocket who arrests a person simply taking a photograph or recording his arrest of a subject any different from the person taking pictures or recording? Well for one that "Citizen" can choose to post his photos or recording of the officers actions on Youtube or even send it to the local news station. Calling that officers actions into question, as to whether his actions were appropriate. Many Law Enforcement Officer's HATE that. They hate and despise the idea that someone can second guess their experience and their actions. So much so that in certain cases of egregious misconduct, dash cam or security camera footage "Disappears" or is "Unusable" such as what happened in the Erik Scott Case. When a person is recording or photographing officers during a take down or confrontation, many officers will immediately tell them to stop or leave the scene. Such as what happened to Emily Good , even HuffPo found this outrageous noting that the officers official statement did not match Ms. Good's video of the event.

Ms. Good and others are guilty of something seen as a crime by many Law Enforcement Officers, "Contempt Of Cop" a systematic cancer which is eating away at the very tenets of Law Enforcement. You get pulled over for some reason and you are not "polite" enough for the officer's liking. Suddenly you find yourself on the ground with a knee in your back getting metal bracelets for a new fashion accessory, and your car towed so it costs you several hundred dollars to get it back. What did you do wrong? In many cases nothing. The officers just felt you needed to grovel at his authority some. Now this is not a condemnation of all law enforcement officers. I personally know many who abhor this behavior by their fellow officer, however many are afraid to speak up or out against it as the "Blue Wall" where every officer stands next to and protects a fellow officer no matter how bad or egregious his or her conduct is. I have worked as a Housing Authority Security Officer and was a Volunteer Police Auxiliary and Volunteer Firefighter. I have seen some of the behavior I am alluding to in this post. And after 10 years of telling my supervisors and requesting manning reassignments and seeing nothing being done about that behavior, I finally said enough. And got out of the field.

Officers who act outside of their authority are the ones who don't want to be photographed or recorded, Departments who have forgotten the Ideals of "To Protect and to SERVE", and don't get me started on "Asset Forfeiture".

Until such time as Law Enforcement Agencies realize their job isn't to be "Tacti-Cool Mall-Ninja, Paramilitary Organizations" but to serve and to protect the public safety and order, these incidents will continue to happen with what I'm afraid will be increasing regularity.

The .50-110

Many years ago I held in my hands a beautiful original C. Sharps Arms rifle in .50-110 caliber. I actually got to fire that rifle and it's twin also in .50-110. For the last several years when I"ve mention I wanted a Sharps in .50-110, many people have told me that there was no such caliber. Well I've been doing some digging and here now is some proof that Yes, there is a .50-110.

Exhibit "A" Buffalo Cartridges :

".50-90, .50-100, .50-110 Sharps

In 1872 Sharps introduced their 2 1/2 inch case for .50 caliber bullets. This was in the form of the .50-90 Sharps, soon known as the "Big .50". The same cartridge was also called the .50-100 and .50-110 when loaded with lighter bullets and more powder.

The .50-90 Sharps came about when buffalo hunters clamored for more powerful loads with increased killing power. The .50-90 became one of the mainstay cartridges of the buffalo runners. Its case is a rimmed, straight taper type with a base diameter of .565" and a neck diameter of .528". Case length was 2.5" and COL was 3.2" It used .509" diameter bullets.

Factory loads gave a 335 grain lead bullet a MV of 1475 fps and ME of 1630 ft. lbs., or a 473 grain bullet a MV of 1350 fps and ME of 1920 ft. lbs. A 550 grain bullet could be driven to a MV of about 1275 fps and ME of 1985 ft. lbs.

Cases for reloading and bullet molds are still available as of this writing for the .50-90 Sharps. Some of the Sharps Big .50 rifles remain in use today, and Shilo Sharps Rifles of Big Timber, Montana is once again offering new Sharps rifles in .50-90 caliber.

Sharps put both their .40 and .50 caliber cartridges on a "special order only" basis when they went to the .45-90 cartridge series for their regular production rifles. However, the Sharps Big .50 remains one of the most famous of all the American buffalo cartridges."

The .50-110 was also used by Winchester in it's famous model 1886. :

"This is an example of a truly exceptional one-of-a-kind Winchester Model 1886, Take-Down, Fancy Sporting Rifle that was manufactured in 1894-5. What is truly unique about this rifle is that it is factory documented as being chambered for 50/100 caliber. In a Buffalo Bill Historical Center letter dated January 20th, 1987 Winchester Arms Museum Researcher, William L. Porter, states the following (about this rifle): In researching the Model 1886 records, I found that serial number 97359 was a 50/100 caliber arm when it left the factory. This was the only 50/100 caliber arm recorded. The aforementioned documentation is contrary to the rifle as having the "450" added to "Ex 50-100-450". It is the noted authority R. L. Wilson's opinion (letter included), that the factory remarked the rifle upon it's documented return to the factory on either July 1, 1908 and May 28, 1915. The rifle has a blued barrel and receiver with color casehardened lever, hammer and crescent buttplate. Blued receivers are typically found on special order take-down Model 1886 rifles in this serial number range. The rifle has many rare special order features which include: fancy grade, checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock, very rare half-round/half-octagon barrel with full length magazine, matted sighting plane on both the round and octagon portions of the barrel, rare 'Winchester Express' rear sight with two folding leaves, ebony pistol grip inlay and eyelets for detachable sling swivels on the forearm cap and butt. 1895 was the first year that the M1886 Winchester was chambered for this cartridge. The hammer has the early style knurling with double border on the spur. The upper receiver tang is roll stamped: "-MODEL 1886-" and the lower tang is marked: "-PAT.OCT.14.1884./JAN.20.1885-" in two lines behind the trigger. The serial number, "97359" is located behind the lower tang screws. The left barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN .CONN.U.S.A.", followed by "NICKEL STEEL" below the rear sight and "EX 50-100-450". The oval Winchester proof mark is stamped on the left barrel flat between the caliber designation and the receiver. Besides R. L. Wilson's letter and the factory letter, there is also noted Winchester authority and book author George Madis's letter dated August 1, 1994 about this rare Model 1886 50/100 included in the lot."

A Link to a discussion about the Winchester is HERE. There are many great photos of both the take down and the solid frame rifle.

The .50-110 Sharps is based upon the .50-90 Sharps round. The .50-100 and the .50-110 use a lighter weight bullet with more powder, 100 grains and 110 grains respectively. So technically a .50-90 Sharps can be used as a .50-100 and a .50-110.

There are many reloading supplies for the .50-110 WCF, but very few for the .50-90/.50-100/.50-110 Sharps round. And I feel this is sad as when I fired those .50-110 Sharps many years ago I hit the steel gong first time. I loved the could of smoke, the shove of the rifle, not a kick a shove. And while it was a stout shove it was nowhere near as bad as when I fired a .358 Rem Mag.

So if you see a .50-90 Sharps around for a halfway decent price you might want to consider just how much fun you can have with it.

Wow!!!

Obama actually did a press conference without his Teleprompter. I wonder how TOTUS feels about that. You can actually see him looking down to his notes/speech instead of his look left speak, look right. Over and over ad nauseum. Unlike G.W.B. who used note cards and spent most of his time looking out at the audience and who rarely used a teleprompter, B.H.O. looks weird, where G.W.B. looked comfortable. Maybe he's learning? Nahhhh He'll have TOTUS back up there again probably his next conference or speech.

Mark

Ugh!

I don't think I can take any more of this. The lies, the frustrations, the misdirections and obfuscation.

I'm talking about.........

The Main Stream (Lame Stream) Media.

Weinergate is just the latest. The attacks on Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, on ANY Conservative, be they a Republican or a Democrat. The lack of coverage of LEGITIMATE news stories for partisan means. Where is the media with the wildfires in Texas, the tornadoes in Missouri and elsewhere? A brief 30 second bite and then on to just how our great leader is trying to save the planet and his voting bloc. Where are the real hard hitting questions on unemployment? On the health care "Mandate"? Rising fuel costs? Inflation which the government is denying but hits me every time I go to the grocery store, or to the gas station.

WHERE IS THE MEDIA!!!!!!!!!

Yes Fox News does cover a lot of these stories, but Fox ie: Faux, News has credibility issues. What credibility issues? You ask. Most younger voters believe the LSM lie about how Fox, I'm sorry, let me get it right, Faux News is so biased they couldn't tell you the sky is blue without lying.

The perception is there, fostered by the connivance of the rest of the media and the liberal left politicians. The Whitehouse's war on Fox News to label them as "Not a news organization" only fell apart when the other media outlets stood up to the Whitehouse and say "Oh, no you DON'T" they actually grew a backbone. The problem is, it withered away and the other media outlets resumed their jellyfish imitations. The Whitehouse doesn't like a reporter's story, so they get kicked out of the press pool. When will it end? When all the reporters are locked in a closet? Ooops That already happened.

The Media needs to quit being afraid of losing their access to the Whitehouse, and start worrying about doing their jobs. A reporter is supposed to go after the story, the WHOLE story. Not just the parts that look good to their preferred political ally or allies.

Otherwise, they might find themselves as obsolete as the print news is rapidly finding itself.

Hmmm maybe this is why I'm having problems with my back

Between the spinal fusion I've had, the herniated disc in my neck, and all the other bits of metal in my body, I was wondering why my back goes snap - crackle - pop and most movements.

Welp, 43 years ago

I was born in St. Mary's hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. I am what and who I am today, because of my parents and family. I have always known that I was loved by my parents, no matter how stupid a thing I did. They always supported me even when they thought I was nuts because of some of the things I did. I owe them more than I could ever hope to repay.

My father passed away in February 2004, after a fall on some ice. His brain was badly damaged. And rather than letting him suffer, possibly as a person trapped inside his own head, my mother, brothers and I decided to let my father go. My mother and I were with him when he finally let go and left his mortal, fragile body behind. The brilliant mind that had once inhabited it was then free to join his mother and father in Our Lords Grace. I miss my father every day. His intelligence, his conversational skills, his unflagging love I know he had for me.

My mother still lives. She lives about 3 streets over from me. After my father died, I saw her trying to put together a life for herself without my dad. I know it was hard for her. And even with a few missteps here and there she has built a new life, and has found someone to share her life with again.

Her fiance isn't my father, but he is a good man. A man I know my father would approve of. He like my father has worked hard all of his life, and he treats my mother with the love and respect she deserves. I'm glad he is in her life, and I proud to know him as a friend.

On this, the start of the 44th year of my time on this great creation of our Lord's. I find myself glad with the way my life has gone, and sad at the heartbreak within it. But I wouldn't change it, because it is what has made me what I am today. A father of 7 kids who I love with all my heart even though there are time I want to strangle them. I wouldn't give them up for anything. Not even my own life. I just hope that my children know that I love them as much as I know that my mother and father have always loved me.

So now I start another year of my life. I am broken in a few places, but I will carry on as best I can. So my children will know that I love them, and I will always love them.

God Bless everyone in this creation that the Lord has provided for us. My his blessings be with you in your life and your family's lives always.

What is wrong with this picture?

Is President Obama even relevant any more?

With leaks about how Leon Pannetta, Hillary Clinton, Robert Gates and Bill Dayley, did an end run around President Obama and the interference of his advisor Valerie Jarrett. To the flubbed time line of events. To the various gaffs over the protests in Egypt. To his actions and comments on the Libyan revolt. President Obama is so far out of the loop and realm of reality, it is no longer even funny. Alienating our allies, real and putative. And even his own supporters are more and more disappointed with him.

Is he relevant any more?

When his own cabinet, goes out of it's way to present him with a fait accompli in the assault to kill or capture Osama Bin Laden, something is seriously wrong with the picture. His own putative allies are marginalizing him, and going and doing their own things in such a way he cannot interfere with them. Does he even know what is supposedly being done at his direction? What about the layers over oversight that is supposed to keep things like that from happening? Well if the over-seers are the ones doing the deeds, there will be no oversight. That's right, the people Obama hired to help him run the country are doing everything they can to go around him. Shows you the kind of trust that's going on in the cabinet.

So President Obama has to take a good long hard look at what is going on around him, and decide a few things. Is he going to continue to be marginalized by the members of his cabinet by listening to bad advice from people who have an agenda which is their own? If not, he needs to decide how he is going to change the equation and take back control of his cabinet and this country.

Unfortunately, I don't see President Barrack H. Obama as having the guts to do what needs to be done. If he did his cabinet would never have had to resort to the means they did to take out Osama Bin Laden. They would have gone in his office, said, "We know where Bin Laden is" And he would have said, "Take him out, NOW." We now know that it did not happen that way, and it makes me very sad to think that soon this great country of ours is going to feel the effects of his lackluster performance of his duties.

Valerie Jarret - Traitor?

If this is true, then Valerie Jarret is more interested in being the power behind the throne, than in allowing the President to do his actual job. She needs to go, and possibly to be charged with Treason, for aiding and abetting terrorist actions through intentionally interfering or delaying matters of National Security. For every person who is killed by terrorists because of her interference, she should be charged as an Accessory and for Conspiracy . Our Government does not need an "Advisor" who thinks they know more than the elected official they are supposed to advise, and to constantly negate the authority of those who are entrusted with our Nation's security.

Either way, Ms. Jarret needs to go. That way she can no longer interfere with the running of this nation, and it's security.

Osama Bin Laden is dead.

I feel relief that his spectre is no longer around as a boogie man, making our country's intelligence services jump at shadows trying to find the information on the next terror attack.

At the same time I feel dread at the possibility of renewed assaults on us and our allies in the fight against terrorism and extremism. I worry now about rushed attacks on our servicemen and women, in revenge for his death. A rushed attack is one we cannot prevent as we cannot determine patterns or develop intelligence about it. It is too sudden for that.

And yet even more so I find myself praying. Praying that maybe someone will look and see the ultimate futility in attacking innocents. The futility in terrorism for terror's sake.

Islam is supposed to be a religion of peace. And yet it has become known as an instrument of terror and subjugation. What happened? When did Islam turn away from peace? From tolerance?

I fear Osama Bin Laden's death will be used by many of his followers and many who do not follow him as a means to perpetrate atrocities on others. And for those atrocities to be held up as "following the tenets of Islam"

Whose agenda does that follow?

Killing, maiming, raping and torturing someone because they do not share the same beliefs as yourself?

I'm sorry, I disagree with many people over many things. Religion included. But I would NEVER, EVER, EVER think of causing harm to someone over it. To do so, is selfish, unthinking and just plain RUDE behavior.

I happen to have several friends back up in Missouri who are Muslim. And when 9/11 happened they all like me were shocked and saddened by what happened. My friend Syd actually went to the FBI office in downtown St. Louis and asked them if he could help, or if they needed to speak with him as he had just the week before returned from Pakistan visiting his parents. I was at his job talking with him when 2 FBI agents asked to speak with him and showed him some photographs. He was always helpful to them. The only thing I recall him asking was if it wasn't an emergency, could they wait for his lunch break which was in 20 minutes.

Syd always told me that he wished he could join the Army or the FBI to catch the terrorists. His health precluded him joining the military, they don't allow people with heart problems in the service, but I do know he would go to the FBI office any time they called and asked him to.

Syd died last year. His heart finally gave out. It was a very large heart, both physically and spiritually. And because of him I know that not all Muslims are bad people.

This infuriates me

When a severely wounded hero/soldier who got his wounds serving us, the Citizens of The U.S., is jeered at and insulted by know nothing liberal lazy college students who have no knowledge of what Honor or Sacrifice are.

Please go over to Sean's Blog and read it for yourself.

I am seriously beginning to think we need to re-institute the draft, for males and females and make them learn what it takes to become a soldier, and team member and a part of the larger U.S. Military family. If you are a service member or a former service member, you are FAMILY. And the U.S. Military always takes care of it's own. It's the idiot civilians in the Government who screw things up.

Global Warming and the recession

I remember seeing a program on PBS's Nova about the effect of aircraft contrails on the temperature after 9/11. If I am remembering correctly the temperature swing when there were no contrails was greater. The night time temperatures dropped lower faster, and the day time temperatures rose higher faster.

Here is the link to the PDF of the report: LINK

Extrapolating a little bit, mind you I am NOT a scientist or a meteorologist, it seems to me that it is only the increase of of contrails which are helping to maintain the earths temperature. Without the contrails and possibly other green house gasses we might actually be heading into another little ice age. The earth is large and it radiates a LOT of heat. The contrails and green house gasses which are supposed to be contributing to global warming might actually be helping earth to maintain the climate it currently has.

Think about this. If the global warming alarmists get their way and everyone is forced to use less CO2, and less air travel and everything else. We might actually push ourselves into another ice age. Another ice age means thousands if not millions of people will die. You can't grow food if their is no spring planting season. If you can no longer mine coal, how will you have the power to heat your home? If you can no longer drill for oil and natural gas, same thing...

With the Climategate leaks, can we take anything any person who cries out for man-caused climate change seriously?

Where are the real facts? What are the real dangers? With politicians pandering to special interest groups and organizations what is in store for our planet if we cannot get the truth?

The current recession has caused among many things a reduction in contrails from less flights, less CO2 from less cars being driven on the road as people cannot afford the gas, I know about that one as I'm one of the people who is driving less and less. Here in Southern Texas where I live, the last week has set record low temperatures several times. Last night the temperature got down to 29 degrees, the normal temperature is 42 degrees. Tonight the temperature is expected to get down to 23 degrees, the normal temperature is supposed to be 40 degree. I'm dreading what my electric bill will be. As I am on disability from my various surgeries, I am on a very limited budget. And according to the government, there is no inflation, so no cost of living adjustment. However food costs have gone up over 20%, gas for my vehicles is still inching higher and higher. It's over $3.00 a gallon in many places by me. Hmmmm, is there a correlation here?

You tell me..

Accountability

What ever happened to accountability? Where you as an individual were held accountable for your own actions? These days if you step over the line and do something that is against the rules and laws of a decent society, you are not responsible. You had a bad childhood. The teachers at school didn’t understand you. Your parents stifled your creativity. The Doctor misdiagnosed you. The group of people you hung out with mislead you.

It doesn’t matter what you have done; it is always someone else’s fault.

Erik and Lyle Menendez blamed their parents for their own heinous actions, murdering those parents out of greed and avarice.

Always someone is crying for apologia as a defense. The defendant was mistreated, he/she was an outsider, if only someone had treated him/her better, he/she wouldn’t have done this horrible thing he/she is accused of.

When I was a child, if I screwed up my only defense was, I screwed up. And then I had to take my punishment. And punishment could be anything from loss of privileges, up to a paddling. And yes when I was a kid I got my rear end warmed up many times. It wasn’t that my parents were being mean or capricious, they were trying to instill in me a value system where I accepted responsibility for my actions, and as a matter of course I also learned that certain actions are unacceptable in society.

Unacceptable actions:

Stealing

Lying

Cheating

Fighting without cause

Harming others

Disrespecting others

Breaking the law

Threatening others

Being discourteous or rude

Intentionally hurting animals, (Note this does not mean I cannot hunt, it means that I cannot go out of my way to torture or harm animals for personal amusement)

Using illegal drugs

These are just a few of things that I recognize as my part of the contract I have with society. Everyone should have these as their contract, however over the years; a malaise has taken hold of our society. And the apologists have moved in, and have been standing in the way of enforcement of the societal contract. You cannot punish or discipline your child as it may hurt their ego. You cannot hold a child back in school, as they need to stay with their peer group. You have to let the child test their boundaries without fear of reprisal for their actions. And yet when that child does push those boundaries, you are responsible for their actions. Not Them.

My mother and father always let me know when I screwed up. And when I did well also they let me know. And when I crossed the line they let me know and they made sure I would never do it again. Today, kids are constantly crossing the line, over and over again. Why? They have no fear of a punishment, or reprisal for their actions. The apologists stand in the way of parental authority and discipline.

The standards by which I was raised have been changed and in many cases abolished. So many people sit and watch the news and wonder how the things we see on the news can be happening.

A tragic shooting occurs. And rather than placing the blame where it truly belongs, on the person who did the shooting. The apologists blame others. They cast aspersions on someone else. In the case of Jared Loughner, the sword being cast is two-fold. To shift the responsibility for his actions off of him, and to smear certain people for political means.

The Pima County Sheriff, Clarence Dupnik, made a statement shortly after the shooting, blaming the “Rhetoric” for being the cause of the shooting.

Yet his own department had known that the shooter had made death threats to others before he went on his rampage. And since Jared Loughners mother worked for the county, they swept the threats under the rug. If they had responded properly, Jared Loughner would have undergone a psychiatric evaluation. The results of which could have prevented Loughner from purchasing the firearm he used, and it could have gotten him the help he desperately needed. But Apologia rears its head. And it is not the fault of Sheriff Dupnik that Jared shot 14 people and killed 6 of them. It is Sarah Palin’s fault, Glenn Beck’s fault, and Rush Limbaugh’s fault. It is the fault of everyone who is politically opposite of Sheriff Dupnik. He is not at fault for failing to follow the laws he has sworn to uphold. He is not at fault for cronyism to protect the reputation of a fellow county employee. So while Sheriff Dupnik and his fellow political cronies seek to use this tragedy for their own ends. Remember who is really at fault.

Jared Laughner.

With the shooting in Arizona

I have been hearing references to Sarah Palin, Vitriolic Political Discussion, Tea Party Activists, Right Wing Extremists and many other things. All of them to shift the blame from the individual who is actually 100% responsible for the action, to other persons or ideas for a political talking point. Also I am tired of hearing the shooter, who I refuse to name here, referred to as "The Suspected Shooter" There is no "Suspected" He was caught in the act, dozens of witnesses, there is no suspected about it. I honestly don't even see the need for anything more than a perfunctory trail, How do you plead? Innocent by reason of insanity? Good you will be held until you are sane and then you will be executed by hanging,. Plead Guilty? You have a choice, hanging or a firing squad, sentence to be carried out in 10 minutes, in public, broadcast nationwide. No appeals, no one filing motions on your behalf for clemency.

And for those talking heads, and political spin doctors looking for political leverage, shut up. I don't want to hear you. I don't care about what you think or have to say. Six people including a child are dead, you should be praying for the families of the dead and injured and nothing else should be coming out of your mouths.
