NRA-ILA - New Years Resolutions of the Rich and Anti-Gun (Actually just Hillary)

Debunking Clinton’s Gun Control Agenda

Clinton wants to bring back her husband’s failed ban on assault weapons.

The Facts: The congressionally-mandated study of the federal "assault weapon" law found that: "At best, the assault weapons ban can have only a limited effect on total gun murders, because the banned weapons were never involved in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders." (Urban Institute, "Impact Evaluation of the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act of 1994," March 13, 1997, p. 3.)

Clinton wants so-called universal background checks.

The Facts: Going back to the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007, every firearm used in a high-profile mass shooting went through a background check. Not a single one was bought from an "unregulated private sale," through "the Internet," or in "the parking lot at a gun show."

Clinton is open to Australia-style gun confiscation.

The Facts: There is no conclusive evidence Australia’s 1996 gun control law made the people of Australia any safer. Don Weatherburn, director of the New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, told PolitiFact that the evidence is "far from conclusive." Harvard's David Hemenway, admitted, "We really don't know." While it is true that in the years after the law took effect, gun homicides and suicides declined. But they were declining before it took effect. Gun murders also subsided in this country after 1996. They fell in New Zealand, which declined to embrace the Australian approach.

Testing Patriot Plate

Earlier this year I got my eldest daughters fiance and myself some body armor. He works as a guard for an armored car company and is a Commissioned Texas Security Officer. I want to make sure he stays safe so I bought him and myself a set of Patriot Plates from Maingun Military Surplus. That link goes to the model of plates and carrier I ordered for the two of us. Only I ordered black and the LineX coating on the front plates.

Well, while I was up in College Station for Christmas, My soon to be Son In Law was concerned about just how well the plates would perform. So we loaded up various firearms and pulled the smaller 6X8 plates, one from my armor and one from his and drove out to Gunsmoke Shooting Range in Snook to test them out.

I wasn't able to get any videos because it was raining off and on and the range was rather crowded, but the small plates DID stop, .22 LR, .38 Special, 9mm, .45 ACP and then 7.62X39 and 5.56X45.

Some photos of my plate are below showing the various hits.

I took a picture of the plates, rotated it 90 degrees and took another to try to let the light to show the different hits better.  These plates were all shot at 10 yards.  Each plate took 8 rounds of .45 ACP 230 gr. FMJ, 17 rounds of 9 mm 115 gr. FMJ, 12 rounds of .38 special 130 gr. TMJ, 10 rounds of .22 LR 36 gr HP, 2 rounds of 7.62X39 123 gr. FMJ and 1 round of 5.56 55 gr. FMJ.

What I find amazing, is that the Tula 115 gr. FMJ 9mm made almost no marks on the plates but the Winchester Whitebox 230 gr. .FMJ 45 ACP left some OBVIOUS marks on the plates and the Winchester Whitebox 130 gr. TMJ .38 Special  left very faint marks.  The 2 7.62X39 123 gr FMJ's left the very obvious marks towards the edge, with the Wolf 55 gr. FMJ 5.56X45 left a slightly more prominent "Ding" in the plate.

I didn't test the LineX coated plates as I don't want to damage the lining because these plates will be USED by my son in law and myself.  If someone would like to send me a Lined Plate I'd be more than happy to test it out.

Now the Condor Plate Carrier is a leetle bit conspicuous.  So I also ordered a Blackhawk Low Vis Plate Carrier for both of us, for wear under a shirt from LA Police Gear.  Once again I ordered them in black.  My son in law's carrier fit him just fine after a few small adjustments, mine however because my chest is so large, I'm going to have to have some velcro extensions made up to fit around my chest, and over my shoulders properly.  I just need 3 more inches of adjustment and those inches just aren't there.  It sucks having a 48 inch chest sometimes.

I also have a similar issue with the Condor carrier, I can't get the shoulder straps adjusted low enough before I run out of adjustment space.  So I'll need to find someone who can make up some extensions, unless there is already a company that does that, that someone can recommend.

If anyone would like to see how the coated plates stand up, please send me one and I'll fire it up.

I do plan on taking the 6X8 plate out again and testing it against my Chinese T-53 in 7.62X54R and also 7.62X25 Tokarev out of my Romanian TT33, and maybe I'll break out my 62 gr M855 5.56X45 rounds.

Possibly tomorrow if the weather cooperates, I'll be able to use my camera.

But my son in law and I KNOW these plates will protect against handguns and light rifle fire, (Yes I consider the SKS/AK and the AR-15 to be 'Light' rifles), that he or I might possibly face from a criminal.  Remember these are supposed to protect against standard rounds.  Armor pentrators are designed for just that, to penetrate armor.  Although Maingun has the Patriot Two armor that is supposed to defeat AP rounds and weigh a few lbs less.

Note for the FTC:  I PAID for these plates out of my OWN POCKET.  I am NOT receiving any remuneration for posting this.  No money, no products, nothing, nada.

NRA-ILA - 124 Anti-gun Democrats Introduce Semi-Auto Gun and Magazine Ban in House of Representatives

From NRA-ILA Blog: https://www.nraila.org/articles/20151229/124-anti-gun-democrats-introduce-gun-and-magazine-ban-in-house-of-representatives

On December 16, Rep. David Cicilline and 123 other Democrat members of the House of Representatives introduced H.R. 4269, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2015, a bill virtually identical to S. 150, introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) in the Senate in 2013.

For the moment, the ban has little chance of passing. Feinstein’s legislation was defeated in 2013, no similar legislation was even considered in the House at that time, and Feinstein’s two attempts to push the ban this year—most recently after the terrorist attack in San Bernardino—failed as well.

However, things could change in 2016. The leading contender for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton, is campaigning on the most anti-gun platform of any candidate in American presidential history. Meanwhile, though the leading candidates for the Republican Party’s nomination are far friendlier to the Second Amendment than Clinton, support has not yet galvanized behind the one who will ultimately be selected to carry the party’s banner going into Election Day.

It is important to note that H.R. 4269, like other federal “assault weapon” bills introduced over the last decade, would not “reinstate” the federal “assault weapon ban” of 1994-2004. Gun control supporters have been using the word “reinstate” to mislead the American people into thinking they are proposing to renew the ban that expired in 2004. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

The 1994 ban allowed manufacturers to produce AR-15s without flash suppressors and one or two other external attachments, and to make similar adjustments to other firearms. As a result, the number of AR-15s made and sold during the 10 years the ban was in effect was a quarter of a million greater than the number produced and sold during the preceding 10 years. Additionally, 50 million magazines capable of holding over 10 rounds were allowed to be imported while the ban was in effect. CBS 60 Minutes reported that the first year of the “ban” was “the best year for the sales of assault weapons ever.”

For these reasons, the Violence Policy Center, which in 1988 urged anti-gun activists to focus on “assault weapons” as a “new topic” to “strengthen the handgun restriction lobby,” described the 1994 ban as a “fictional ban,” “a ban in name only . . . [and a] “charade.”

The new ban proposed in H.R. 4269 is another story. It would prohibit the manufacture of most detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles, numerous semi-automatic shotguns configured for defensive purposes, any semi-automatic rifle with a fixed magazine over 10 rounds (except for a tubular magazine .22), any semi-automatic pistol like the HK SP-89, any semi-automatic pistol with a fixed magazine over 10 rounds, revolving cylinder shotguns, various other named and described firearms, frames and receivers of banned guns, and ammunition magazines over 10 rounds, except those for tubular .22 rimfire rifles.

Two weeks ago, an ABC News/Washington Post poll found that the American people oppose an “assault weapon” ban by a 53%-45% margin. Presumably, if the American people knew the vast differences between the 1994 ban and the one currently being proposed, that margin would widen considerably.

Please contact your U.S. Representative and express your opposition to H.R. 4269. You can call your U.S. Representative at 202-225-3121 or write your lawmakers here: https://www.nraila.org/take-action/write-your-lawmakers/

Iraq Veteran 8888 - Top 5 Guns For the New Gun Owner

I don't have a Ruger 10/22  but I do have a Glenfield 60 which is the Marlin 60 and is a very reliable accurate small rifle.  You can find them used for as little as $100.00 if you look around, although most of the used Model 60's will need major cleaning as many people will shoot them until they stop ejecting right, then just spray some WD-40 or gun oil in them, work the action a few times and go back to shooting, instead of properly cleaning them.  I know mine which I paid $150.00 tax included for at a pawn shop needed a LOT of cleaning.  I plan on getting a small 2X scope for it and it should be capable of 4-5 inch groups at 100 yards.  More than accurate enough for 90% of your shooting desires.

The Henry AR-7 is also another good .22 rifle, I used to own one of the old Charter Arms AR-7's, but I had to sell it many years ago to pay some bills, so I finally replaced it with a Henry Arms version.

You will be seeing a post and video or two on the Glenfield and the AR-7 in a month or so.

I own several .22 pistols, although I prefer my Heritage Arms .22 LR/.22 WMR Single Action Revolver.  It's a sweet little shooter, but it does shoot high so that needs to be taken into account.  I also have several .22 conversion for both my 1911 and my AR-15 clone.

About the shotgun, I own a Maverick 88, and while it doesn't have a marine finish, for it's price point it IS a good firearm.  They are available here locally from Academy Sports for under $200.00, they do offer the 18 inch barrel version for the same price, but I personally prefer having a good hunting barrel in addition to the shorter home defense barrel.  On my personal Mav 88 I installed an ATI Folding pistol grip stock, and I looked for several years to find a 20" Ribbed barrel that I installed a Carlson's Rifled Choke Tube.  I feel this gives me the best versatility especially with the ability to use slugs all the way out to 300 yards with the rifled tube and still use shot when I need to.

AR-15 Clones, M Forgeries and many others can be purchased for as little as $450.00 up to several thousand.  You can mix and match uppers, calibers, optics, grips, fore ends, vertical forward grips, slant forward grips, just mix and match.  The AR-15 platform has been called the Barbie Gun by authors, gun writers, and the general firearm community for it versatility, utility and ease of use and modification.

And a Mosin is a good all around rifle, able to take man or beast out to 400+ yards if needed.  You used to be able to buy a Mosin for less than $80.00, nowadays if you can find one for under $250.00 you are doing good.  Ammunition is still easy to find for an affordable price even though you can't find the 880 round cases for under $100.00.

The whole take away from this, is if you are just getting started in firearms, there are a wide variety of firearms available to you.  From a snub nose revolver to high end target rifles, all you have to do is ask around and you will find out what may be right for you.

Fifth Gear - Putting Petrol Into A Diesel Car

Actually the capability to use various fuels is why I want to get an M35A2 with the Multi-Fuel Engine and the dual PTO's.  Granted you can't go over 55 mph without damaging the engine since the transmission is geared for torque and towing rather than speed.  However I don't drive that fast anyway and I WANT the towing capability and the use of the PTO shafts for various attachments.  Such as PTO Generators, Pumps, and even small drilling rigs.  Yes there is a company that makes a PTO powered drill that will drill for water or other things using the PTO of a M35 or a tractor as it's main power source.

Plus I like the idea that I can load the bed full of materials and still pull a 1.5 ton trailer.
