"Officials approve Golden Gate Bridge suicide barrier funding

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Bridge moved a big step closer to getting an oft-debated suicide barrier after bridge officials on Friday approved a $76 million funding package for a net system that would prevent people from jumping to their deaths.

The bridge district's board of directors voted unanimously in favor of the funding for a steel suicide net, which includes $20 million in bridge toll revenue. Federal money will provide the bulk of the remaining funding, though the state is also pledging $7 million."

Which is all they are doing, instead of the underlying issue?  Mental Health.  All that money for suicide barriers for a bridge which has less than 50 jumpers a year.  That money could be used to PREVENT more suicides than 50 if it was used to fund treatment centers for people who need help.

If someone who KNOWS they have a mental health issue thinks the only way to get treatment is to go to jail or prison don't you think they'd look to suicide as a preferred answer?

All the barrier is, is just one more way for the meddlers to say "See we care", when it was through their caring that State Mental Hospitals were closed, Private Mental Treatment Centers were choked  out of the market through more and more burdensome and intrusive regulations, that had no proven nor documented need.

But the same people who are bringing you the "Suicide Barrier" are the one who brought those regulations.

Political Correctness being imposed on our troops

Of COURSE the politicians are imposing their Nanny State ethics on the military.  The Military doesn't have the same Rights as a civilian due to the UCMJ.  The Nanny Staters in the .GOV can make behavior types illegal under the UCMJ and the .MIL goes right along with it.  And the troops suffer for it.

What many people don't seem to understand is, that this is THE PLAN.  If the NSers can enforce their idea of Political Correctness on the troops, they hope to change the thought patterns of the troops, so that when they get out of the .MIL the thought patterns and acceptance of such BS Political Correctness will become the norm.

And the Progressives in DC and their minions in the Defense Department are doing it RIGHT NOW.

Even bacon?

No – the decision to stop offering any pork products was based in a much broader institutional philosophy, the president says.

“When you come to college, you come to be educated,” Sorrell said. “We thought we could do more in the area of promoting healthy lifestyle choices and healthy eating habits.”

To be honest when I read the headline on Instapundit, my first thought was some college trying to curry favor with Muslims. Then I read the article.

Uhhmmm, I'm 44 years old and I will eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat it, without the interference of an overly officious school administrator. Where does he get off attempting to dictate what students do and do not eat? Fine it's the schools cafeteria, take out the pork and bacon, don't be surprised if students get chinese take out and pizza delivered so they can eat it, in your cafeteria, just to rub your nose in your simpleminded, and I do mean that exactly as I typed it, decision.

As many have pointed out many times in the past. You cannot legislate behavior. People will do whatever ay to obtain or do it.they choose to do. If you attempt to make something illegal or restrict access to it, they will still find a way to obtain or do it.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
