IV8888 looks at the closing of the Doe Run Primary Smelter

Look at the comments and you will see the pro and the con and the flat out hucksters.

Sierra posted on their blog that they don't get their lead from that smelter they get it from a Secondary or Recycling Smelter.  They miss the point.

The Doe Run plant in Herculaneum is the ONLY Primary Smelter.

That is the only smelter in the US that takes the raw ore and does the primary smelt.  The Secondary or recycling smelters cannot repeat CANNOT do a primary extracting smelt of raw ore.

So the raw ore must now be shipped outside of the us for primary extraction and then be brought back into the US.  How much do you think the cost of lead will now go up?  The raw ore now has to be shipped out, processed then brought back in.  What are the tariffs going to be?  How much is the shipping going to be?

So yes the EPA and it's regulations are aimed at our Rights.

You don't have to take my word for it, just look in the news about all the various EPA regulations.

Here is a link to a google search to get you started:   https://www.google.com/search?q=EPA+land+use+regulations&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=EPA+land+use++and+water+rights+regulations&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&safe=off&tbm=nws

The US Army is already moving to lead-free small arms ammunition so the military will not be harmed by this and they don't care how much of your money they spend. FWIW, the new AMMO is Really REALLY good.

And yes, it actually costs less to produce lead in other countries and ship it here than it does to make it here. So we will have cheaper ammo, not more expensive. There are way too many lead applications in industry to prohibit imports (Car batteries!!!).

I'm not seeing how the added double shipping plus taxes and tariffs make it cheaper.
