I just finished watching Suicide Squad for the third time. A few things which are bouncing around in the back of my head.
Number 1: Just how much ammo does Harley actually have for her Rhino? When we see her with her jacket off we see she has two speed loaders under her right arm. We never see her use them though. The only time we see her reloading she is using individual rounds, and the two speed loaders never get used. If I counted right she fired a grand total of 17 rounds in the movie and Deadshot fired 1, for 18 rounds, which is the 6 in the gun plus 2 speed loaders. But she STILL had those two speed loaders on her shoulder holster.
Number 2: Where did the SEALs get the scuba tanks, regulators, fins etc? they weren't carrying them when they got off the Chinook.
Number 3: Who shot down the first Chinook? I mean it's only the Chinook carrying Flagg that gets shot down, not the second one flying formation with it. And after they shot down the first one, why didn't they shoot down the second? Could it be like Deadshot said, that the Enchantress is afraid of Flagg? And that is why only that Chinook got shot down? And why the Eye's kept trying to take Flagg?
Number 4: Just how much ammo do they have? I saw lots of ammo getting shot off, a little bit of reloading, but their mag pouches never seemed to be empty. I know when I was in the Army, our normal load out was 6, 30 round magazines in our pouches and 1, 30 round mag in our rifles. That's only 210 rounds. Granted we would have an additional 200 rounds in stripper clips in a bandolier in our packs, but that is still only 410 rounds. I never saw anyone reloading magazines, and they seemed to have bottomless magazines for the most part. Especially Deadshot's wrist magnums. The scene after they get shot down and Deadshot uses his wrist magnums to take out the "Horde" of Eye's, even using 33 round mags in each one, he should have run out of ammo at least 40-50 rounds before the end of the fight. In addition Deadshot uses 2 Glock 18's in the end fight with the Enchantress and knowing the cyclic rate of a G18, he went several bursts beyond the bottom of the mags.
Number 5: WHY does the Enchantress ALWAYS move with the spooky dance moves? Almost everytime you see her if she is not actually fighting she is moving like a third rate horror movie actor trying to portray menace. Seriously, that right there made me laugh. Seriously, how scary is someone who moves like they are from a cut rate side show, trying to scare the little kiddies.
Number 6: Why is the Joker being portrayed like a caricature of himself? I know that Jared Leto spent a LOT of time to get himself into the proper frame of mind to portray the Crown Prince of Crime, and yet from what I've read, a LOT of his material was cut from the movie. Maybe they should have left it, it would have made him more menacing instead of weak.
Number 7: I would have liked more of an explanation about El Diablo and his powers. We get hints, that he is inhabited by a demon, Enchantress even makes reference to it. And when he lets go during the fight with the "Big Bad" his whole form changes, giving a glimpse of the demon. Add in the Crown seen in the CCTV footage, I am more interested in his story.
Number 8: Slipknot. Just Slipknot. Why did they even bother? Other than, they need to blow off someone's head to show the Nanite explosives implanted in the "Squad's" necks were real?
Number 9: Amanda Waller. Whaaaa? How? Seriously, is she a US Government Employee or does she work for Vladmir Lenin or Joseph Stalin under the old Soviet Union?
Did I enjoy the film? Yes, but if you are going to put together a movie like this, WHY? WHY? didn't you just go for the Hard R rating and make it Soooooo much better?
I mean, you already have the swearing, and the violence, however you have neutered it. And the scenes feel forced and incomplete.
For the acting?
Cara Delevingne; well, see my comments above. I think her performance could have been better without all the body language.
Margot Robbie; I like how she portrayed the mental parts of Harley Quinn. the physical aspects, were also very good. However it felt like she was only in 4th gear. Maybe the scenes of her getting into 5th gear hit the cutting room floor, I hope a directors cut comes out with additional scenes showing her really opening up.
Will Smith; he rises up and gives a very good performance. He makes Deadshot more menacing, without going over the top. I would hope a directors cuts brings more of his menacing to the screen.
Jared Leto; speaking of menacing, Jared Leto's Joker has that in abundance, however the scenes that remain don't go far enough. Trying to stay away from the dreaded "R", really hurts Leto's performance. I don't blame him, I blame Warner Brothers.
Joel Kinnaman; He didn't really sell me as an Army Colonel nor even a Lieutenant Colonel. Maybe, I could see him as a Major, maybe, but he comes across to me as a Captain. He doesn't have the presence of a higher ranked field grade officer. He does not have the gravitas, demeanor or the imposing physical authority. I've known Full Bird Colonel's who you KNOW they are in command. Not just of their men, but of themselves. And Joel Kinnaman, just does NOT have that.
Viola Davis; See above. This woman emanates menace. She is one of the most believable characters, and the most despicable.
Jai Courtney; The only thing I can say is he is at least a somewhat competent comic relief.
Jay Hernandez; He really brings his "A" game, and I would really like to have seen more of the story behind his character. He was by far the most believable character in the entire movie.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje; He needed more screen time and more character development. He really sells his character, the inherent menace that is leashed. I'd like to see more of his work.
Karen Fukuhara; Really? They changed her wardrobe to make it more "revealing" and they then dumbed down and made her more one dimensional. A few brief breakthroughs of the character from the comic books, but all too few and all too brief.
Adam Beach; See above. We never get to see enough other than he is a total ASS, before he gets his head removed from his shoulders.
I'm really hoping a Directors cut gets done with some reshoots and adding in cutting room floor material and hopefully it has a Hard "R". This property has the possibility to be VERY GOOD, but only if Warner Brother's get their hands off the film and puts them in their pockets.
