Primary Surgery Non-Trauma and Trauma
While cleaning up my bookmarks, I found a link from way back when I still had slow 33.6k dialup that I had never bothered to use BECAUSE I had slow 33.6k Dial Up.
When I checked it, it was a dead link, however it is something I have been hoping to add to the KTD Drive. It is the Book/Manual, Primary Surgery.
Since the link was dead, I went looking for it to see if it was available elsewhere on the net.
I found many copies of it, however those copies were without the illustrations. which for something like surgery is rather important.
Finally a lightbulb appeared over my head and illuminated something for me.

So I checked the Wayback Machine and Lo and Behold, they had the files.
So I present to you the link to download the Manual, Primary Surgery.

The total size of the files on my hard drive is 231 MB. All of the chapters were never fully digitized so there are some chapters missing. The files that were Digitized however are still important to add. And I will be adding the files to my personal KTD Drive. I will also zip them up and upload them to my Google Drive Account and make the download link available for any who wants to download ONE file instead of 50.
ETA: the file is zipped and uploaded to my Google Drive the link is: primary_surgery.zip
It will be a day or two before I upload them however. When I do, I will update the Main KTD Page.
NOTE: The main reason I want these files on my KTD Drive ISN'T so "I" can try to do surgery. It is so the information is available for those who DO have the skills necessary to do something like that in case of an Emergency. Who would those people be? Believe it or not, a Veterinarian CAN do surgery on a human in an Emergency. So can a Physician's Assistant, certain Paramedics, PRN's, certain RN's. IF they have the equipment and the knowledge base to support them. Meaning, the MANUALS.
I have a relation who was born ONLY because the local Veterinarian performed the caesarian section on his mother, saving both of their lives in the process. There were no helicopter ambulances back in the early 60's, and the regular ambulance was still over an hour away. The local Veterinarian was 1/4 mile away and he had his kit in his truck. This was back in the day of party line telephones, when if there was an emergency at one places all your neighbors on the same line knew about it and would come running to help if they could.
So the purpose of all the various medical manuals I am putting in the KTD Drive, isn't for just me. It is also for those who have the training to use them to help save lives if it is necessary.

KTD Drive Update
I've had several people ho have sent me blank USB Drives to burn them a KTD Drive. Some have sent me a disk to copy the programs, so they can clone their KTD drives for others.
I ran into a problem. The program I used to use to make ISO's of the drives doesn't support the root files system properly so the drives are not bootable properly.
There is a way around that though.
I'm copying the Adriane Knoppix ISO and Unetbootin with instructions on how to make bootable copies into the Burn Directory on the KTD Drive itself.
Those people who sent me a blank CD will get their CD's back, and the Burn dircetory on their KTD Drive.
Basically Copy the Burn and Preparedness Directories from your KTD drive to your hard drive. It will take about 24 GB total.
To make a KTD Drive, plug a FORMATTED, full format NOT a Quick Formatted USB Thumb Drive into your USB port.
Then double-click on Unetbootin, on the bottom left where it says Diskimage, click that, then go to the end of that line and click on the browse button, it has the 3 dots like this "..." on it. Browse to the Burn directory and click on the Adriane Knoppix ISO, then be sure to select the drive letter where the USB Thumb Drive is and click OK to start burning the ISO file to your USB Thumbdrive.
When it is complete Unetbootin will ask if you want to reboot, click no. Remove the drive from your computer, then shut it down.
Put the USB Drive back in and turn your computer back on and enter setup during the BIOS POST test.
Go to the BOOT section and change your boot order so it boots from the USB drive first.
Save your changes and reboot your computer.
Your computer SHOULD boot from the new drive. Let it fully boot, do NOT set the permanence on it yet.
Shut your computer down again, remove the drive and boot your computer normally.
Once it is fully booted, plug the drive in and open it through file manager. Then copy the Preparedness folder into the root directory of the USB Thumb Drive. It will take several hours to complete. It doesn't matter how fast your computer is, it is the read/write rate of the drive which is the limiting factor..
If he person you are making the drive for is going to make other KTD Drives, also copy the Burn Directory over as well so they have the ISO of Knoppix and the Unetbootin program to burn it to a USB Drive.
I am on my last bunch of Drives to make, and I should have the last two going out in the morning mail.
If you want to send me a Drive to make one for you, please let me know before hand, so I know to make the trip to town to check the Post Office Box.

And Yes, I have the stuff to change to oil on my truck, I just need a dry place to do it. Thank you for the people who already sent me drives and enough to offset my costs for the P.O. Box and gas.

KTD working on a new program to try to clone
the drives. The old program upgraded and suddenly it doesn't support making an .iso file. Not unless you want to buy the UPGRADE for $39.99 No thanks. I'll muddle along and try other things.

Burning KTD Drives
It really doesn't take quite that long to burn a KTD Drive. It does feel like it sometimes. However it will go from 7 hours to 35 minutes up to 9 hours then down to 5 minutes. Back and forth. Normally it takes about 4 to 5 hours to make 1 KTD Drive.
And tonight I'm making up 3 so I can hopefully get them in the early mail tomorrow, back to the people who sent me drives requesting me to make up a drive for them.

If you are getting the KTD Drive through the Torrent links
Please continue too stream the Torrents so others can obtain them. I'm on very Slooooooww DSL and my upload speed is only 20 kps, and I ALWAYS have my BitTorrent open and streaming. Although I've heard from several people that they are unable to d/l the Torrent even though I'm streaming it.
Blame AT&T for that. I have it set to always stream the files. And many times it seems like no one is d/ling it anymore and I get connection problems everywhere I try to browse.
So please if you can, Stream the torrents for the KTD Drive so others can get them.
I will try to find others who have much faster internet than I to host and stream the files as well.

KTD Drive - Limited Time only
As I wrote in a previous Post, Scott - the Fat Guy has passed away. Leaving no way for people to purchase a ready made KTD Drive.
For a LIMITED time, if you will send a brand new, still in the original packaging 32 GB USB Thumb Drive, along with a Self Addressed Stamped Padded Envelope, I will burn the KTD files to the drive for you and mail it back to you.
If you also enclose a blank CD-R in a protective sleeve, I will burn the programs needed so you can clone your KTD drive for any other who may need one.
The program I was using to make an ISO is no longer supporting that. So if you want to make copies of the KTD Drive, let me know when you send the drive and I'll write the necessary files to the KTD Drive with instructions so you can make copies as needed.

Please make sure the Self Addressed Stamped Return mailer is a padded one and has the proper amount of postage.
If someone wants to take over making these drives for people, I will help you out as long as you don't try to make a lot of money off of this.

Saying that, it takes several hours to make a KTD Drive, so if someone who wants a drive wants to give me a few bucks to cover my costs, (P.O. Box, Electricity, Gas, Time Involved) I won't object. I'd prefer a Postal Money Order, Cash or a Franklin or Walking Liberty Halve or two)
Now here are the MAIN RULES to this.
The Thumb Drive MUST be in it's original packaging. If it is not, I will send it right back to you. Only SansDisk, PNY or Kingston Drives. They must be 32 GB, NOT 64 and not less than 32 GB. (Several computers I've tried the 64 GB drives on would not recognize the 64 GB drives but would recognize the 32 GB drives.) Ever since I've started this Project, I've gotten several drives that were infected. It is too much of a hassle to clean the drives and their boot sectors, so ONLY drives still in their original packaging.
You MUST include a Padded, Self Addressed Postage Paid mailing envelope, so I can send your drive back to you.
You have to send me an E-mail at my greylocke gmail address when you send it to me, so I know you are sending me a drive to do. It's 8 miles from my house to the Post Office in town, I don't want to have to go into town unless I KNOW there is something I have to get. So I'll probably only check the P.O. Box every other week unless I KNOW you are sending me a drive to write.
You DO NOT have to pay me to do this. (Although it would be nice to get some compensation)
You may NOT set yourself up to sell these drives for more than 5-10 dollars over cost. This project is about helping people NOT making a lot of money. I will help anyone who wants to clone their drive for others. If you are in a MAG or other group and want to make drives for everyone in your group, I will help you get set up to do so. Please don't send me a dozen drives and expect me to write a drive for your entire group. I'll burn ONE drive and help you get setup so you can clone your drive for others.

Not all computers will be bootable from a KTD Drive. Many can with an updated BIOS, but not all. So don't expect this to be a miracle product that will let you boot any computer.
If you want me to update the system files on the drive please let me know what size you want the permanence file to be. My personal drives permanence is set to 2.5 GB and I update it once a month. Not all updates will take effect. It depends on the system the drive is currently being used on.
There will be some extra room on the drive for you to use for any files you might want to keep for your emergencies. On my drive I have a PDF copy of my Birth Certificate, Driver's License, Insurance information, a brief medical history and a list of my medications. This file can be accessed just by plugging it into the usb slot of almost any computer. Like Hospitals or Dr's Offices. I'm actually talking to my PCP to get a PDF of all of my medical records to keep on my drive also.
Now, you can send a new in it's original packaging 32 GB with a SASE padded mailer to my P.O. Box, be sure to send me an E-mail so I know it's coming and will make the trip to town.

It takes 6-8 hours and the EMTECH drives are not recognized by many computers when trying to boot from them. If the drive isn't on it's cardboard backer with the plastic cover unopened, I will simply put the drive in your return mailer and send it back to you before I even leave the post office. I do not want to get my systems infected and it's too much of a hassle to clean a drive properly. I'm doing this on my time, I'm not tying to make money from this, so if it's going to be a hassle for me, I'm not going to do it.
The Padded return mailer must have the proper return postage on it. I'm on a very limited budget and cannot afford to cover postage if you got it wrong. Seriously, I'm trying to cover too many things this month so I had a choice of the P.O. Box or changing the oil on my truck. Well I'll have to change the oil next month now.
If you want to get a drive, and then clone it for your friends/family/MAG. Please let me know. It would best if your drive did not have the permanence set, so each person could customize which software they want. After you get your drive back, you could figure out what programs you need to set the permanence to, then make a master file to clone your drives.

KTD Drive
If you click on the link to buy a KTD Drive from Scott and try to buy one from him. You will get no answer to your messages. Scott was suffering from Cancer and it looked like he was winning the battle. However after a round of Chemo he had to be admitted into the hospital and later died.

Scott passed at midnight. He was sleeping comfortably and with his family. Right now his Mother believes a memorial service will be held Sunday Feb 16. I will post details here when I know them.
He was a great man. We shall miss him much.
As such there is no way to purchase a ready made KTD Drive anymore.
I will be getting another P.O. Box in a few days and I will not Sell the drives however I will make drives for anyone who sends me a brand new in the packaging drive with a Self Addressed Stamped padded Mailer.
I will write all the files to the drive and mail it back to you.
Note: it takes a minimum of 3 hours just to burn the files to a drive. So if you want to pay me 4 or 5 bucks to cover my expenses of gas, P.O. Box, electricity and time, I won't complain. It is NOT required though.
The requirements:
A 32 GB USB thumbdrive brand new, still in it's original packaging. If it is NOT in the original packaging, I'll just mail the drive back to you, I won't even touch it.
A Postage Pre-Paid Self Addressed Padded Mailer to return the completed drive to you. The average postage to return the drive is just under $2.00. Have the Post Office weigh the drive in it's packaging on the envelope, to get the proper postage.
I will get a P.O. Box this next week and will post it here on the Blog and update the KTD Drive page with that address.
I'm not in this to try to make money. I just want to help people get information which may help them through life.
NOTE: I will ONLY write the KTD Files to a SanDisk, PNY, or Kingston Drive. NO EMTECH Drives or other discount drives. It takes much longer to write the files to those other drives and they are not as reliable than the Main Brand name drives.

Please only 1 KTD Drive per envelope. The old saying. "What they pay for, they'll value. What they get for free, they'll take for granted, and then demand as a right." Thank you Lois McMaster Bujold. So I will only do 1 drive per person/address, and ONLY for a limited time. How long that time will be, I don't know yet. I do have a life outside the KTD Project and this blog.
So this isn't an open ended offer.
If someone else want to take over writing these drives, and lets me know, as long as they aren't gouging people and not trying to make a bunch of money, they are more than welcome to. If you live near Corpus and wouldn't mind hanging out while your drive is burned, you and I can meet up somewhere and talk while your drive is being written. It WILL take several hours to be fully written so I'd need somewhere to plug in my netbook.
I'll update this post after I get the Post Office Box with the address. Please DO NOT ask me to "Sell" you a drive. If you cannot make the effort to purchase a drive and padded mailer, you aren't serious about this and just want a 'Toy' to put on your keyring to say you have one.
Also please tell me what size you want the "Permanence" file set to. This is so any updates, or other settings are saved. If you don't specify a permanence size, I will not set it up nor will I update the main system files. You will have to set it yourself and install any updates. I recommend setting the permanence to a Minimum 2 GB to allow for updates to be installed properly.

I will be getting another P.O. Box in a few days and I will not Sell the drives however I will make drives for anyone who sends me a brand new in the packaging drive with a Self Addressed Stamped padded Mailer.
I will write all the files to the drive and mail it back to you.
Note: it takes a minimum of 3 hours just to burn the files to a drive. So if you want to pay me 4 or 5 bucks to cover my expenses of gas, P.O. Box, electricity and time, I won't complain. It is NOT required though.
The requirements:
A 32 GB USB thumbdrive brand new, still in it's original packaging. If it is NOT in the original packaging, I'll just mail the drive back to you, I won't even touch it.
A Postage Pre-Paid Self Addressed Padded Mailer to return the completed drive to you. The average postage to return the drive is just under $2.00. Have the Post Office weigh the drive in it's packaging on the envelope, to get the proper postage.
I will get a P.O. Box this next week and will post it here on the Blog and update the KTD Drive page with that address.
I'm not in this to try to make money. I just want to help people get information which may help them through life.
NOTE: I will ONLY write the KTD Files to a SanDisk, PNY, or Kingston Drive. NO EMTECH Drives or other discount drives. It takes much longer to write the files to those other drives and they are not as reliable than the Main Brand name drives.
If you also send a blank CD-R I will burn the programs necessary so you can clone your KTD Drive for others, please just be sure it will fit in the mailer and is in a protective sleeve.
Please only 1 KTD Drive per envelope. The old saying. "What they pay for, they'll value. What they get for free, they'll take for granted, and then demand as a right." Thank you Lois McMaster Bujold. So I will only do 1 drive per person/address, and ONLY for a limited time. How long that time will be, I don't know yet. I do have a life outside the KTD Project and this blog.
So this isn't an open ended offer.
If someone else want to take over writing these drives, and lets me know, as long as they aren't gouging people and not trying to make a bunch of money, they are more than welcome to. If you live near Corpus and wouldn't mind hanging out while your drive is burned, you and I can meet up somewhere and talk while your drive is being written. It WILL take several hours to be fully written so I'd need somewhere to plug in my netbook.
I'll update this post after I get the Post Office Box with the address. Please DO NOT ask me to "Sell" you a drive. If you cannot make the effort to purchase a drive and padded mailer, you aren't serious about this and just want a 'Toy' to put on your keyring to say you have one.
Also please tell me what size you want the "Permanence" file set to. This is so any updates, or other settings are saved. If you don't specify a permanence size, I will not set it up nor will I update the main system files. You will have to set it yourself and install any updates. I recommend setting the permanence to a Minimum 2 GB to allow for updates to be installed properly.

All you need to do is e-mail me a "Redacted" copy of your ID Card and I will e-mail you my address to send me a new still in the wrap 32 GB USB Thumbdrive with a Self Addressed Postage Paid Padded mailer. I will burn the files to the drive and update them as current as I can and send it back to you.
I will warn you, DO NOT use the KTD Drive on ANY Government computer without prior authorization from your IT/Intelligence Boffins. And they will want to check it out beforehand as well.
But you will have on your keyring a repository of files that will help in an emergency situation and can boot most PC's into Knoppix.
Which has been helpful for me after a friend of mine got a really nasty piece of Malware and my KTD Drive, the one I keep on my key chain, was used to get his system to boot and run a scan to defeat the malware so he could even get it to boot up.

The Red Cross failed response during National Disasters
"In 2012, two massive storms pounded the United States, leaving hundreds of thousands of people homeless, hungry or without power for days and weeks.
Americans did what they so often do after disasters. They sent hundreds of millions of dollars to the Red Cross, confident their money would ease the suffering left behind by Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Isaac. They believed the charity was up to the job.
They were wrong.
The Red Cross botched key elements of its mission after Sandy and Isaac, leaving behind a trail of unmet needs and acrimony, according to an investigation by ProPublica and NPR. The charity’s shortcomings were detailed in confidential reports and internal emails, as well as accounts from current and former disaster relief specialists.
What’s more, Red Cross officials at national headquarters in Washington, D.C. compounded the charity’s inability to provide relief by “diverting assets for public relations purposes,” as one internal report puts it. Distribution of relief supplies, the report said, was “politically driven.”
The failed response of the Red Cross and other organizations is one of the reasons I put together the KTD Drive. That way people would have SOME WAY of helping themselves.
As the Red Cross is more about Public Relations and Fund Raising instead of you know, actually doing their job of helping people after a disaster.
What do I think the problem is? Too much reliance on large national organizations, and too little reliance on local organizations to the detriment of said local organizations.
Too many places instead of setting up their own policies instead use the Red Cross as a Hail Mary play to come in after the fact. And put off accountability for their own policies.
In many local communities there is NO disaster relief plan other than "Call the Red Cross" or "Call F.E.M.A.".
What happened to the local organizations and groups that would look at what was happening and start putting their own assets into motion?

If you are looking into my KTD Project and would like help in making them, please send me an E-mail, preferably in english or translated to english, and I will try help you create the drives. If a few of you would like to send me blank 32 GB USB Thumb Drives still in their unopened original packaging I can load all the software and burn you a disk with the extra software so you can clone the drives for as many people as you want.
All I ask is that you do not sell the drives for monetary gain. If you sell them to recover your costs, I don't have a problem with that.
What I am hoping for is a College or University will get a copy of the drive and allow people to bring in a blank drive that can have the files cloned onto it. That would allow more people to get the information, which is freely available on the internet and the World Wide Web, and doesn't have anything to do anything secret or of dangerous nature.
I started this project to make it so people can learn to help themselves and others.

I am working on a further modification of the KTD Project which will involve an inexpensive 7" Touch Screen, Generic Chinese Android Tablet and a 32 GB Micro SD card. I can use the help in selecting the necessary files, to try to make it as complete as possible and as informative and helpful as possible.
When the newest project is complete, I will try to make an .ISO of all the files, then I will need help seeding the files for people to be able to download the Torrents of it. If a College or University could host the files on one of their servers, it would make it much easier for more people to get the files so they can just make their own without having to go through me to get the files.
Once again, I'm not in this to make any financial gain. Only to help people. This is my way of volunteering since I can no longer physically do it.

If you have a KTD Drive
Please use it to boot up your system. Make Sure you have a Permanent file of at least 2 GB. Be sure to go into Knoppix, the (GUI) Graphical User Interface, click on the start button in the bottom left corner, go up to preferences then go down to Synaptic Package Manager. When it opens click on "Mark All Upgrades" then click apply. The update window will ask you if you want to continue as some of the pacakges may not be signed, click ok/apply.
This will update your KTD-Knoppix operating system and any other software you may have installed.
In order:
Boot into Knoppix
Click Start
Click Preferences
Click Synaptic Package Manager
Click Mark All Upgrades
Click Apply
Click Mark/Ok/Apply
Some packages you may also wish to install:
Flash
VLC Media Player
FBB Ham Radio Program
AFSK Ham Radio Program
While you are are upgrading and installing, look around at the other programs available. You will find hundred of GNU Licensed programs, which means they are free for you to use. You just cannot try to make a profit on them

KTD Drive Creation
If you have purchased a KTD Drive or made your own and want to copy it for others, I'm going to give you the quick and easy instructions on how to do that.
First you need a little bit of software to make it easy, plus you need to have room on your hard drive. About 40 GB's just to be sure.
The programs you will need to copy a KTD drive are at the links below.
ISO Recorder
IMG Burn
Now here we go on how to make a bootable copy of your KTD Drive.
Install the two above programs
Plug your complete KTD Drive into USB port.
Use ISO Recorder to create an ISO of the KTD Drive on your hard drive.
It will take over 26 GB's so be sure you have the room on your drive.
It could also take several hours.
Once you have the ISO Image file saved you can burn the image to other USB Thumb drives.
To burn the ISO to a new thumb drive use IMGBurn.
Plug formatted 32 GB thumb drive into USB Port. (Be sure you have formatted it and if you have the U# program on it use the U3 Removal tool from HERE first
Open IMGBurn.
Select the KTD Drive ISO file.
Select the USB Drive as the target. Click Burn.
Come back in a few hours and you will have a new KTD Drive.
Verify that it works by booting a separate computer with the new drive.
Please if you copy your drives don't charge for them. Hae the person you are copying it for supply the Thumb Drive. Preferably a 32 GB, Sansdisk, PNY or Kingston drive. Those drives work well and boot most IBM/AMD Architecture computers. Unless the computer is running Windows 8. I'm still working up special instructions for using the KTD Drive for Windows 8 Computers. All i will say about that, is that it is a pain in the patoot.
