KTD Project - Active Duty Military Personnel

Addendum at bottom of page

Going through my logs I've noticed a lot of hits from .mil addresses on the KTD Project pages.  If you are on active duty and wish to get a KTD Project Thumbdrive, send me an e-mail.

All you will need to do is to send me a redacted copy of your ID Card a 32GB USB Thumbdrive still in the package and a Self Addressed Stamped Padded Envelope.  I will write the files to the thumbdrive and test it to make sure it works properly.  I will also update all the Knoppix/Debian Linux installation packages, then I will mail it back to you.

NO CHARGE..

This is for ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL ONLY!!!!!!!!

So send me an E-mail to my greylocke e-mail address over there on the right under where it says "Send a Missive".  I will e-mail you back with my address.  You send me a redacted photocopy of your Military Issued ID, just Name, Rank and Expiration date, use a sharpie to line out the rest, an UNOPENED 32GB USB Thumbdrive and a Self Addressed Stamped Padded Mailer.  I will do the rest and you should have the drive back to you inside of 10 days depending on the mail, or if you are overseas.

If the drive is NOT in it's original unopened packaging I WILL NOT DO IT.  I've already had to deal with 3 infected thumbdrives and it is a pain in the butt and it wastes my time to have to deal with them.  So new in the package ONLY and make sure to include the padded mailer.  The Postal Service's machines will either tear the envelope or damage the drive if it is not padded.

Everyone else if you don't want to download the files yourself and write them to the drive yourself, Scott sells them through his blog at the following link:  KTD Contact / Order Form

So to recap.  Active Duty Military Personnel can send me a redacted copy of their ID to prove to me they are on active duty, it MUST include their ID's Expiration Date, and the name better match the name on the return address.  There is a limit of ONE DRIVE per person, and you MUST e-mail me first.

After I get your e-mail, your name goes on my list for getting a drive.  When your drive gets here and gets sent back out I will check it off.  If I get a drive from someone NOT on my list it will be sent back unopened.  If you do not send me a redacted copy of your ID your drive gets sent back.  I won't take it out of the package I"ll just drop it in the return envelope and send it right back.

No e-mail beforehand, no copy of ID - No KTD.

I don't get paid for this.  I put this together to help as many people as I can, however I realize that many Active Duty Military personnel can't make the time necessary to put together their own drive and some of them can't afford to buy one from Scott.  For them, if they send me a drive I will put it together and send it back to them.

Now since I know some people have problems with comprehending things unless it is explained in the lowest common denominator, I reiterate for the third time.

THIS IS FOR ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL ONLY.  IF YOU ARE NOT ACTIVE DUTY OR AGR YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS.

#1: FIRST YOU MUST SEND ME AN E-MAIL TO HAVE YOUR NAME PUT ON THE LIST

#2: THEN YOU WILL SEND THE UNOPENED 32GB USB THUMBDRIVE, A SELF ADDRESSED POSTAGE PAID, PADDED ENVELOPE AND A REDACTED COPY OF YOUR ID TO ME.

#3: I WILL WRITE ALL THE FILES TO THE DRIVE, UPDATE THE OS FILES AND TEST IT, THEN MAIL IT BACK TO YOU.

The all caps is for the people who think they can get something for nothing.  And if they try to send me some photoshopped copy of an ID, their drive will just be sent back to them.

Now please, I'm disabled and I have 7 kids, please don't forget to include the return envelope and make sure it has the proper amount of postage.  The last 4 drives I've mailed out took about $1.97 each in postage.  If the postal rate went up again like they were talking about it may be higher.  If you are having it sent to an FPO or APO, I'm not sure how the postal rate for that would be.  So please make sure there is enough return postage.

Please do not send me any money, checks or anything like that.  Unless you want to add to my kids coin collection then 1 small foriegn coin would be ok as long as it doesn't mess up the postage rate.

So hit my greylocke e-mail address over there on the right.  NOT the Mark e-mail address that one is only checked once a week.  I will add you to the list of people I am expecting a drive from.  I will e-mail you back with my address.  You send me the drive, return envelope and the REDACTED copy of your ID. Depending on the mail you should have it back in about 10 days, unless I get swamped.  It takes about 4-6 hours to write the files to a drive and about 2 hours to update and configure the files.  So hopefully I'll have it back out in the mail to you a day or two after I get it.  After I mail it off back to you I will send you another e-mail letting you know it's on the way.

The final addendum.  No, no one can date one of my daughters or ask for their pictures, e-mail addresses or Facebook pages. (I used to be in the Army Reserve, I know how most of them think)  Thank you for asking, but I don't own nearly enough firearms if everyone starts asking.  (My lame attempt at humor)

ETA: These drives can be accessed without using them to boot a computer.  I've accessed the files through Windows, Mac OS 10 and Android 2.3  To access them through an Android device you will need to use a USB Adapter which is available on Amazon and Ebay for less than $6.00.  Also through an e-mail I've had concerns expressed to me that I might be trying to pass off Malware.  All I can say is ask Chris Muir of the Day by Day comic if I have sent him something with Malware.  There are a few other bloggers who I have sent the drives to, I won't name them unless they give me permission to, but they have the same exact file setup on their drives that I and my 4 oldest kids carry with us everywhere.  My kids and I each carry a different manufacturer drive but the info on them is the same.

Once again, I'm not trying to make money off of this project.  I am trying to get as many people as possible to have the information they can use to help themselves and others.

If you have any questions about the drives and the information on them, you can post a comment or send me an e-mail, if you have google talk you can send me an IM using my greylocke ID.  If you have a drive already and have a problem please let me know.  I want this to be easy to use, easy to access and distributed to as many people as possible.

Please spread this around on the .mil blogs if you can. And PLEASE specify this is for Active duty and AGR troops only. I don't wish to deal with the drama from those who just want to try to get something without working for it. Our Troops do too much and sacrifice too much, so for them this is an honor to do.
